Note: The fleet of drones was not given a specific name so I just called it Quadrotor drones.
Searching lost hikers in the middle of thick forest can be very challenging and may cause further danger to rescuers. These drones can address those challenges and can save lives. These were developed by researchers from the Massachusets Institute of Technology (MIT) in collaboration with the NASA Langley Research Center.
The drones collaboratively search for lost hikers without the need for GPS. They can explore terrain or thick canopies using wireless communication.
Each autonomous quadrotor drone is equipped with laser-range finders for position estimation, localization, and path planning. As the drone flies around, it creates an individual 3-D map of the terrain. Algorithms help it recognize unexplored and already-searched spots, so it knows when it’s fully mapped an area.

Thank you. 😊
I love seeing these. This is an amazing development. In the near future, we are going to be able to send out hundreds of drones to search for people who are lost. Imagine a hiker who gets lost and sending all those drones into the forest.
I myself was amazed when I found out about the product. Now drones are not just for photography or leisure but also for saving lives.
Thank you very much for your review and support on my hunt.
Saving lives with a drone is really pleasant for me because with it only more lives will not be placed in danger
That is nice of you to drop by my hunt. Thank you for your support. Though it dropped from the 100 ranking. I'm wishing upon the star for it to catch up in few minutes. 😂
Very cool post. I've heard of this technology before but it was great to see it in action through the video. It's quite amazing what drones are capable of.
I've been working on curating drone related content. If you're interested in helping, consider tagging #dronefeed next time you post any drone related stuff.
This isn't the kind of drone thing I usually resteem but I find it extremely interesting. Plus it's such a practical use of drones, I don't think it can be ignored. I've personally been lost in a forest and had my drone with me so I could figure out where I was. Such a useful thing!
Also, I love that YOU posted this because we have something in common. We may have just tied in the Curie comment contest ;-)
Cheers!
Wait... are you also @jocqua? 😀
Seriously, that caught my attention. I did not realize you're also into that. Are you? 😂
Kidding aside, thank you for your support on my post and for the resteem. Just for your info though in case you would support other steemhunt posts next time, do the upvoting in Steemhunt because that will greatly help in the ranking of the product hunt. Upvotes outside of Steemhunt is not counted for the ranking, unfortunately. 😊
Okay, I edited one of the tags to use #dronefeed.
Thanks again for your support.
Yes, this is @jocqua hahaha and I am very much into drones. Not for search and rescue stuff although the company I work for has been requested to do this. I generally shoot photography and video from the air with my Mavic Pro and Mavic Pro 2.
Thanks for the tag! You might have to explain this Steemhunt thing to me though. Is Steemhunt a separate platform or a different portal where I would upvote it from? I'm more than happy to help.
Wow, you work in a drone manufacturing? I have been wishing to have a drone but no budget for it yet. Hopefully, Santa will send me one this coming Christmas. 😊
Steemhunt is a product hunting website that rewards users for their hunts depending on the ranking for the day. If you reach level 1 and above, and your product landed on the top 100 hunts of the day, Steemhunt will upvote your post and 3 comments you make on other hunts.
The ranking is determined by upvotes on the product but the upvote should be done on Steemhunt and within the day of ranking for the upvote to ve counted. Upvotes from Steemit will still be useful in terms if the overall payout value but again, upvote on Steemhunt will play a significant part.
Maybe you would also want to hunt, yeah? 😊
Well not in drone manufacturing, I just fly them a lot. Sometimes for work and sometimes for fun. Specifically the two drones I have flown the most are The Mavic Pro and The Mavic Pro 2. I take lots of pictures and video with them.
I might want to Steemhunt! I'm still learning all that Steem has to offer so this is very new to me. I'll have some time come up in the next week or so and I'll have to look into this a bit further. It sounds interesting! Thanks for filling me in on the details.
I'll wish for Santa to send me one The Mavic Pro 2 this Christmas. 😃
Yap, Steemhunt played significant part in my account growth. I can say 90% of it is from Steemhunt. It is much easier because it does not require you to think too much of what to post. It actually saves me to have a post almost everyday.
Well I'm going to have to look into it because that's what I've been trying to do. Grow my account! Although I have to say the @curie comment contest has really helped that as well. It's been quite time consuming though.
I certainly agree about curie. It is just feel rewarding though when one day you suddenly receive a significantly "huge" steem as compared to just pennies of payout on posts (at least in my case). Steemhunt still did much better for my case. Though for your case, you have to work on building your hunter score first because even if your hunt gets into the 100 ranking for the day, you won't get the steemhunt vote if you're still below level 1.
