#STEEMGIGS: (DIY) — Home remedy for cough
There is nothing worse than having a distracting cough, cough can interfere with your work and even keep you up at night. Generally, cough is normal, A cough can help keep your throats away from irritants. A sustained cough can also be symptomatic of a number of conditions, such as an allergy, a viral infection, or a bacterial infection.
Coughing is a natural response to irritation or a blocked airway and often accompanies allergies, colds or the flu. There are many effective home remedies for coughing in general, but it helps to know what caused a cough in the first place. You can treat coughs due to colds, allergies, and sinus infections with a number of over-the-counter medicines. Bacterial infections will require antibiotics. However, for those who prefer to avoid chemicals, we’ve listed a few home remedies that can help.
The next time you have an annoying cough, take your grandmother's advice and try one of these natural remedies.
Here are some ways to relief cough;
- Steam Inhalation
Inhaling steam is a simple and effective way of treating common cough, Inhaling the warm vapors moisturizes the dry, irritated airways and helps relieve inflammation. If steam is inhaled before bed it can help to clear up chest congestion and provide good night sleep.
- Salt water gargle
A salt water gargle can help sooth a scratchy throat that causes cough. The anti-inflammatory effect of a salt gargle often lasts several hours, but the longer you have the solution in contact with the throat tissues, the better it is. So throw your head back and give it a good shot, repeating the procedure several times a day.
Mixing 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of salt with 8 ounces of warm water can help to relieve irritation
- Honey+lemon juice syrup
Scientifically, honey has been proven in treating coughs and sore throat and for better result you can miss honey with lemon for better results. If you are having issues with cough a good fast relief is honey and syrup. This mixture can be taken at night to sooth your throat and keep the respiratory tract well hydrated all through the night.
- Ginger tea
Ginger has a lot of secret powers and has been used for it's medicinal properties for long
Practitioners of Eastern medicine commonly prescribe ginger to treat symptoms of colds and flu because of its antihistamine and decongestant capabilities.
To make ginger tea add 6 slices of ginger to 1 and half cup of water, allow it to heat for about 20 minutes, strain and add half table spoon of honey and lemon juice. Alternatively, you can make a ginger tea and drink as often as possible depending on the severity of the cough.
Lemon and salt
This is one popular and simple remedy almost everyone knows
Sprinkle some salt on your lemon, this may sound funny but at times when you have it in your mouth you might probable get distracted because you have a mouth full of juice and you may forget to cough.
So when the cough is not serious you can do one of these home remedies to help relieve the cough.

Always like home remedies... thanks for the info. Just another effect of coughing for those old codgers like myself... if you cough hard enough and you had to go to the bathroom before you coughed, chances are good you don't have to go to the bathroom anymore, but probably have to change your underwear now!
