Yes, it is an amazing journey of my life along with myfamily. Actually, I visited the zoo, when I was 5 years old. Now I am a teenager. So let us start our journey together once again and explore a new world.

Introduction

Last Sunday, I decided to do something different and full of enjoyment therefore, I planned to visit Peshawar Zoo with my family. The zoo is situated at the beautiful area near Peshawar University and it really attracts families, children, and students as well as tourist. When I reached the zoo with my family I saw sculptue of two big Girrafes with two large sized Elephants at the main entrance which was looking great. At the right hand side wall I saw Instruction board and a Ramp for Disable Person. To reach the ticket counter my first challenge was to enter a labyrinth and then to the cashier who looked at me as if I was asking for a discount. He handed me four tickets for me and my family. Finally, I stepped into the world of animals to enjoy the real entertainment that was about to begin.

History:

Peshawar Zoo is one of the biggest zoos of the province. Peshawar Zoo was first planned in 2013, but work was delayed because of problems in choosing the right place. In 2015, the final site was fixed near the Pakistan Forest Institute. The construction started on 3rd February 2016, with a groundbreaking ceremony. The zoo was finally opened for the public on February 13, 2018.
The main purpose of the zoo is to educating the public about animals and give people a place for regeneration and to enjoy nature. It was also aimed to support research. Many animals were brought here from other places and also from local wildlife. However, in the beginning, the zoo faced problems with animal care because it did not have enough facilities and the weather was too hot.

Location

The zoo is situated at University Road in Peshawar, right in front of Islamia College and very close to the University of Peshawar. it is easily accessible site, because it is on the main road.
By Bus or Wagon: Public transport is available all day on University Road.
By Rickshaw: Visitors coming from inside the city, rickshaws will take you directly to the zoo.
By Car: Parking is available near the entrance, visitors coming by private car do not face difficulty.
Visitors from other Cities: The zoo is connected through the main GT Road and Motorway, so travellers can reach here without any trouble.

Attractions

The zoo is divided into sections. Some of the main attractions are:
• Monkeys: Always active, they make visitors laugh with their funny moves.
• Lions: The star animals of the zoo, although sometimes they are just lying lazily.
• Bengal Tigers: Bengal Tigers were really looking dangerous and stare the visitors angrily.
• Macaw Parrots and Other Birds: The bird section is very lively, full of sounds and colors.
• Peacocks: Their colourful feathers make them one of the most loved birds here.
• Deer & Black Bucks: Calm and beautiful, people enjoy watching them and taking photos.
• Llama: It is a rare and unique animal.
• Camels and giraffes:
• Snakes: There is a snake launch but they were not available due to some reason.
• Fish Aquarium: This area is beautifully designed. Peace, love and beauty is seen in this place.
• Alligators: Mostly they were lying in water.

The Environment

The environment of Peshawar Zoo clean and green and peacful. There are trees along the walking paths, grassy lawns. There are small gardens for visitors. The sounds of birds can be enjoyed in fresh air.

Learning from the Zoo

The zoo is not just a picnic spot. It also helps children and students learn about animals. Every enclosure has a board with the animal’s name and details, so visitors can read and get knowledge. It also reminds us that animals need protection and care.

Gardens and Flowers: Green areas with plants and flowers add beauty to the zoo.
Large Trashcans: Dustbins are installed to maintain cleanliness across the zoo.

Direction Poles: Signboards and poles guide visitors to different sections.
Wide and clean walking tracks.
Parking space for private cars.
Staff around the enclosures to help and guide visitors.

Ticket Charges are different for various categories like for Individual visitors is as under:

1. Elder than 12 years upto 60 years: 40 PKR that is equal to 0.50 Steem
2. Kids Aged 3 to 12 years: 20 PKR that is equal to 0.25 Steem
3. Regular Student : 20PKR that is equal to 0.25 Steem
4. Elder Than 60 years: Free Entry
5. Kids less than 3 years or handicapped: Free Entry

Group Entry:

1. Group of 1-50 Visitors: 600 PKR that is equal to 7.46 Steem
2. Group of 51-100 Visitors: 1000 PKR that is equal to 12.43 Steem
3. Group of 101-150 Visitors: 1600 PKR that is equal to19.88 Steem
4. Group of 151-200 Visitors: 2000 PKR that is equal to 24.85 Steem

Jogging Track:

Monthly Membership for Jogging Track is : 1000 PKR 12.43 Steem
Timing for jogging is from Morrning Prayers upto 9:00 AM

Other Charges:

Fish Aqurium and Snake Launch

1. Visitors have to pay seperate Charges, same as Ticket Charges.

Tips for Visitors

To enjoy your visit more, here are some simple tips:
• Best time to visit the zoo is morning time or late afternoon.
• Sundays are very crowded, so it is better to visit in weekdays.
• Take your water bottle with you, especially in summer.
• Keep children close, especially near the monkey section.
• Don’t forget your camera because the birds and gardens are perfect for photos.
