The Most Beautiful Sunset

Soft pink streaks painted across the horizon, afternoon sky glowing golden orange. I sat on the lake with the wind that brought the smell of wet soil and leaves. The surface of the water responded curiously as small waves ran after one another whilst giving off the light coming down from the slowly setting sun.

My mom smiled beside me. “Sunsets always take me back to when I was a kid,” she said. I looked my head, her face gradually lined. “When you used to say sit right here till the sun went down”

I smiled. “Yes, Mom. Momma always had tales of the sky.

There was a pause in which you could only hear nature. The silhouettes of birds flying in from the lowering sun down the lengths of their nests. I wanted to document this with a photo but there was no camera warm enough.

Mom, this is the prettiest sunset ever — a LOT,” I whispered.

She nodded. “Not because of colour of the sky we even enjoy this together

I clutched her hand The following afternoon I learned what sharing beauty with somebody else is.
