STEEM CHURCH - YOUR BODY IS THE TEMPLE OF GOD

Good morning steemians, and all the promoters of the gospel. I want to discuss about our bodies as the temple of God. Firstly, let me give honour to @sirknight, the founder of the #steemchurch(first ever church of the blockchain) for giving preachers and writers a platform to spread the gospel.

OUR BODIES AS A TEMPLE

The simple definition of a temple is a building devoted to worship of God
In 1 Cor. 6 vs 19-20

19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

Therefore, our bodies should be devoted to worshiping God. After all, we don't own ourselves neither can we sustain give life to ourselves.

In the world today, people abuse this body given to us by doing all manner of things that goes contrary to the scriptures. these may be done knowingly or unknowingly. I have made a compilation of the things we shouldn't use our bodies for, all backed up with scriptural reference.

1. EXCESSIVE EATING AND DRINKING

In other words, alcoholism and gluttony. the bible says in 1 Cor. 10 vs 31

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

so if your eating and drinking does not give glory to God, then you need to repent. You may ask, HOW CAN MY EATING AND DRINKING NOT GLORIFY GOD?

ON EATING

• you don't have to eat until you cant move anymore, be content with the portion of food that has gotten you filled
• eat to satisfy hunger and for nutrition, dont eat because you love to eat,
• learn to share your food with those that are hungry,
• Always bless the food and thank God for provision.

ON DRINKING

• If you need to drink, do not drink until the point of getting drunk, because you will still be held accountable for your actions before the Lord regardless of the influence of alcohol.

2. EXCESSIVE SLEEPING

Prov. 6 : 10 -11

A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.

Excessive sleep is not good at all. There is a saying that, 'it is when you wake up that your day starts'. Sleep is needed for survival, success, and your spirit. But too much steals time, dulls your drive, and creates drowsiness. If you need 6 hours, set your alarm for 6. Do not turn it off and take 7. The extra hour will waste time, start a bad habit, and may make you sleepier.

3. SEXUAL IMMORALITY

Sexual immorality is by far the greatest shortcoming of man in the bid to make our bodies the Lord's temple because this is not only a sin against God but to our bodies as well. In Hab. 1 vs 13

Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?

God cannot dwell in an unrighteous place, he cannot behold iniquity, you cant be white on Sunday and black on Monday.

CONSEQUENCES OF SEXUAL SIN

1. Do not have sexual relations with your neighbours’ wife and defile yourself with her. --Leviticus 18:20
2. But a man who commits adultery lacks judgment; whoever does so destroys himself. --Proverbs 6:32
3. your adulteries and lustful neighings, your shameless prostitution! I have seen your detestable acts on the hills and in the fields. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! How long will you be unclean?" --Jeremiah 13:27
4. I will not show my love to her children, because they are the children of adultery.--Hosea 2:4
5. "So I will come near to you for judgment. I will be quick to testify against sorcerers, adulterers and perjurers, against those who defraud laborers of their wages, who oppress the widows and the fatherless, and deprive aliens of justice, but do not fear me," says the LORD Almighty. --Malachi 3:5
6. Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. --1st Corinthians 6:9-10
7. Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh." --1st Corinthians 6:16
8. Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. --1 Corinthians 6:18
9. We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did--and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died. --1 Corinthians 10:8
10. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person--such a man is an idolater--has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. --Ephesians 5:5
11. Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. --Hebrews 13:4
12. You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. --James 4:4

In other to make ourselves a temple of God as the bible says, we need to consecrate ourselves from things that makes of unclean, both physically and Spiritually. I see God helping us as we do so in Jesus name. AMEN
