Silence, Murmurator
Nor murmur, as some of them murmured and were destroyed by the exterminator. I Cor. 10:10
In I Corinthians 10, Paul remembers some sins committed by Israel in the desert, and the consequences of infidelity. He highlights, primarily, the murmuring.
Murmuring means: complaining, hurting, speaking badly, pointing out lack, making bad judgment of someone or something. It was exactly what happened with the people of Israel, and the Lord was outraged by the attitude of the people: "How long will I suffer this evil congregation that murmurs against me? I have heard the complaints that the children of Israel have pronounced against me." Numbers 14: 26-27.
Paul warns us about the dangers of murmuring more than once, in the book of Philippians he writes that:
"Do everything without murmuring or happy, so that you are blameless and sincere, sons of God blameless in the midst of a perverted and corrupt generation, in which they shine as luminaries in the world ...". Philippians 2: 14-15
The Bible warns of the seriousness of the murmuring on several occasions, in the book of Judas, when a list of sins is listed the murmuring is placed first.
And of them he prophesied also to Enoch, the seventh after Adam, saying: Behold, the Lord cometh with thousands of his saints; To make judgment against all and to condemn among them all the wicked, for all their works of impiety, which they have committed, and for all the hard words that ungodly sinners told against him. These are murmurers, dear to their fate, walking according to their lusts, and whose mouth says very arrogant things, admiring people for their interest. Jude 1: 14-16
To murmur is to rebel against God, to go against his designs and against his actions, against his will, to murmur is grave, it is sinful and it can not be a practice in the life of a Christian! To murmur is to express what is already in your bad heart, "Race of vipers, how can you say good things, being evil? To get out of the abundance of the heart, speak the mouth." (Matthew 12:34)
Murmuring is lack of gratitude! Every Christian who is aware of his sinful and depraved condition, before his salvation, who is aware of where Christ rescued him, can not, nor does he want for a second, to think about murmuring against God. It is to depreciate God's forgiveness, his Grace, is to demean the vicarious sacrifice of Christ on the cross. It would be better to admit that he is not a Christian who opens his mouth to murmur against God!
Brother, before thinking about murmurs remember that Christ warned that we would have tribulation in this world (John 16:33), but we have good spirits, He has overcome the world. Live by faith, face our problems, trust in God and give thanks in everything, because this is the will of God (I Thessalonians 5:18).
Murmuring, gossip and defamation damage the essence of a congregation that is the pure manifestation of God's love.
