Psalm 51 1 vs 5

“1.Have mercy on me, O God,
A according to your unfailing love;
according to your great compassion
blot out my transgressions.
  1. Wash away all my iniquity
and cleanse me from my sin.
  2. For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is always before me.
  3. Against you, you only, have I sinned
    and done what is evil in your sight;
so you are right in your verdict
    and justified when you judge.
  4. Surely I was sinful at birth,
sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
    "

This passage has often been used to indicate that motherhood is somehow evil and that people are born in a sinful state. It seems a shame that this beautiful passage is taken out of context.
A closer study of the whole Psalm reveals David is breaking his heart over his sinful state after realising he had committed adultery.

The problem here was that David was in depression and his opinion of himself was that he must have been sinful at birth, sinful even from the time of his conception.

Depression is one of the great burdens of our age, In this article I cannot speak of clinical depression but everyone has days when they feel they should not live or cannot face another day.
That is how David felt "The great hero of Israel", a man who seemed to have everything, was on his knees in despair. Perhaps you or someone you know is in a similar position.

Here are some guidelines from the Psalm to help cope with Depression
  1. Let the truth and wisdom of God be part of everyday living.

    Read your Bible.
  2. Let God clean out the heartbreak and know you are clean.

    Repent.

  3. Let God create in you a clean heart and a steadfast spirit.

    Be open.

  4. Know that God saves absolutely.

    Be saved.

  5. Praise God with everything you have.

    Sing.

  6. Know that God accepts your broken spirit, it is then that God can heal us.

    Receive.

  7. When you are feeling that you cannot take any more, run to the Living God. It is when you feel that you cannot even get up from the floor because of your despair, that you can meet God as he is already there waiting for you.

With a lot of things going on in the world today, it's so easy to get depressed. But with assistance from God and associations with good people we can overcome depression.

Depression is probably one of the most difficult things to face and beat in life. It can beat you on your knees and will kick you further if you let it.
Comment 2: The root of dealing with a depression is acknowledging you have a problem
, you have to admit you have a problem and realise you have to make some life changes to get you back on track.
The bible offers the best guide in overcoming depression

thanks for this.
This world is filled with stuffs that is capable of getting us depressed.
It takes the help of God to really get out of this trauma.

We see thousands of graduate out there without having anything doing.
We see people struggle to get one meal whereas some are wasting resources.

It is only when we get our heart fixed on God and keep meditating on th word of God that we build our confidence that will keep us going.

Thanks for sharing this with us, I love this part "When you are feeling that you cannot take any more, run to the Living God. It is when you feel that you cannot even get up from the floor because of your despair, that you can meet God as he is already there waiting for you."

Depression will always make yo to loose hope in the lord and may often be hindrance between you and your God.
Never allow anything to distract you.
His joy is always upon those who trust him in truth and in spirit
He Lord when he was in the earth promised us of the holy spirit.
The holly spirit is not in anyway the evil one it is the spirit a not by God to guild , protect and give Hus children the ultinate direction. .
In any where we find our self we should always give him glory and make our self available to be used by the holly spirit .
When Christ cane to the earth when he accepted to die for his people on the cross of canvary , before his death he promised his apostles of the comforter which is the holly spirit and he did give it to them after his resurrection.
This us to show his much he love us and how much he care about us .

It is important to recognize that depression is not the problem in and of itself; it is a response or reaction to something else. For that reason, Scripture says almost nothing about depression per se. However, it has much to say about the root causes of depression. The Bible teaches that depression is not caused by the circumstances of our lives, but rather by our unbiblical reactions to those circumstances (with the exception of certain physical problems and brain disorders which we will deal with in a moment.

God's word is comforting. The Holy Spirit is the perfect comforter in every situation
