What to do to discover the purpose of my life?

God is good and forever his mercy sent a coordinated greeting on this day, during my cell meetings always interspersed issues of concern and in these last days "the purpose" to marked the pattern due to the arrival of new members to our church local.

We have the habit of thinking of "purpose" as a task or a role. An action to be performed. The purpose of Pele's life would be to play ball. Nothing would fit as well with your life as running after a ball of more than 90 minutes. We want to find similar purposes: at work, in relationships, in the church, in the university. Maybe you dream of finding "tasks" that fit perfectly with your profile.

The Scriptures, however, suggest another definition of purpose. The purpose is the end, the conclusion, the final result. If, for example, I intend to please my two small children, there are many ways to do it: buying candies, bladders, taking them to the park, observing Paw Patrol, etc. There is not a single 'task' that generates the final result of my purpose. It would even be sad if there was only one way to share the joy of my children.

According to the Scriptures, the great purpose of our lives is the glory of God. We were created for this. We are called to this. In Christ we have been enabled for this. We render glory to Him when we worship Him for what He is.

  • A single person can glorify God.
  • A newlywed can glorify God.
  • A couple without children can glorify God.
  • A student of law, engineering or medicine can glorify God.
  • An unemployed person can glorify God.
  • A patient who fights against cancer can glorify God.

When one is concerned with discovering "God's purpose for his life", he may expect the Scriptures to tell him what faculty to do, what work to accept, what girl in his church to marry, and so on.

In fact, there is much wisdom in the Scriptures for the choices we make throughout our lives. But the main purpose of our lives does not fit just a 'task' or an element in a checklist. The Bible will not tell us: "Run after a ball for 90 minutes." (See Colossians 3:17)

The main purpose is how the story ends. There, on the last page of the will of God, after the chapters and chapters dealing with the cross, death and the grave, we find the risen Christ and much, much glory.

Today, now, at this very moment, you can live for God's purpose. Are you going through a moment of pain or illness? This does not mean that you are outside of God's purposes. Not sure where to focus your life and your attention? Focus on what the person and work of Jesus Christ will reflect. Live today with gratitude, regardless of the tasks that are on your checklist.

We are designed by Almighty God for a specific purpose. The Bible contains all the information of our purpose in God, but I would like to quote Rick Warren the author of a famous book "life with purpose" where he gives us five purposes for which every son / daughter of God is created.

  1. You were created to give God pleasure.
  2. You were formed for the family of God.
  3. You were created to be like Christ.
  4. You were formed to serve God.
  5. You were made for a mission.
