THE PRIMITIVE CHURCH
The life of our Lord Jesus and his ministry, which were preaching, miracles, love, death and resurrection for salvation, but above all the anointing of the Church with the Holy Spirit.
The history of the early Christians, as we all know, is well described in 2 Acts, where we find the manifestation of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, where all those present were invested with the power of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2: 1-4
When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all united together.
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, which filled the whole house where they were sitting; and tongues appeared to them, spread out like fire, settling on each one of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them to speak.
The preaching of the Apostle Peter was the same as that of John the Baptist and the same as that of our Lord Jesus Christ: ... Repent and be baptized each one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit ... Acts 2:38.
The life of the first Christians was humble and shared in the houses, far from temples and large organizations, like the appearance on the scene of John the Baptist, or that of our Lord, and later of the apostles. Signs and miracles were made by the apostles and 70 deacons were chosen to help in the work that was beginning to grow before the great persecution.
The conversion of Paul in Acts 9, would be the next great event in the history of the Church, his missionary journeys would found the first Christian communities, in private homes, not in temples.
The first communities were established by the Apostles and governed by elders and deacons, there was no episcopal system, but congregational. Sunday would be taken as the Lord's Day, although some previous Jewish communities would do it on Saturday.
The history of the Early Church is found in the call by Christ of the twelve Apostles to begin the ministry of preaching for salvation and which was confirmed by the baptism of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, after the resurrection of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem. , and its subsequent resurrection.
The Resurrection and Pentecost would originate in the apostles the process that would initiate the evangelization of all nations beginning with the closest cities or villages such as Bethlehem, Caesarea, and then with Paul in Damascus, Ephesus, Corinth, Alexandria, Rome. In addition to establishing the relationship between Christians from the people of Israel with the new Gentiles, which would make them known as children of Abraham, by faith, but not by genetics and tradition, but by the promulgation of the Christian faith and the preaching of the Gospels of Jesus.
Living under the law of Christ as we find in Galatians 6: 2 is fundamental in the life of the Christian, as well as loving the Lord with our whole being and our neighbor as ourselves, Congregate as a church in the name of Jesus Christ, pray, praise to the Lord, and work for his Christian and social community. Organize yourselves for the evangelistic work and obey the Bible, offer your ministry to God so that in the name of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit directs the work.
Yes Sister, the early Church was a church that revolutionized the society of its time, a spiritual outburst was the revelation of the Majesty on High when the Holy Spirit comes to empower the church. The good thing is that it is valid for us and we should want that power.
