Jonah was a good man who had been chosen by God to preach in the city of Nineveh. Nineveh was a city where there were very bad people and that is why God wanted Jonah to go there so that the inhabitants of that city could change their way of being. But Jonah, despite being a good man, decided to flee in a boat to another place in the opposite direction because he was afraid to go to Nineveh.
Then when God saw this, he wanted to teach Jonah a lesson. Then he made the ship where he was going, go through a great storm. The ship was rocking very hard from one place to another.
Until Jonah realized that he had done wrong to flee from God and that the storm was for his sake. Jonah asked the sailors to throw him into the sea because it was his fault that they were going through this dangerous storm. The sailors did not want to throw him and they did not believe what he said.
Then Jonah had to jump himself into the sea. Immediately Jonah fell into the water, the waters calmed and everything was calm again. But something unexpected happened. Jonah was swallowed by a big fish (a whale). Jonah, very frightened, began to pray to God to ask for forgiveness for his disobedience. After 3 days of being inside the whale, Jonah was finally thrown by the fish on an island. Jonah was more than grateful and promised God that he would go to Nineveh to preach his word and never again disobey him.
