What do we do when we feel powerless?

When we feel trapped or powerless, let us simply turn to the Lord and wait for His answer.

Offer praise to God,
And pay your vows to the Most High;
15 And call upon me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you will honor me.

Psalm 50:14-15

For example, in some adventure movies, the exact moment when people are trapped, so helpless in the face of imminent danger, is when they desperately seek escape. Real life can also present something similar, and we cannot feel the same way. From that moment on, we begin to desperately search for a way out. Our prayers are filled with pleas for deliverance, for healing, or simply for a change of circumstances, as well as for some kind of provision.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Ephesians 6:12

Generally, when we are in these circumstances, we consider physical help more important, but do we think about the importance of spiritual help? Let us remember that Jesus Christ has freed us from the power and consequences of sin. He knows that we are not capable of facing sinful habits or even clean emotions or thoughts. He simply wants to free us from this.

And call upon me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you will honor me.

Psalm 50:15

Let's look at this great example of David. We remember that he loved the Lord very much and cried out to him moment after moment for his rescue. Just as David admitted his helplessness, in the same way we can come before God, admitting that on our own we don't have the ability or the power to face some circumstances. Let's trust in the Lord and present our fear, our unbelief, and even our pride. Then let's put aside our "self" and turn our gaze toward Him.
Let's allow God's Holy Spirit to fill our lives with biblical truths. Let's fill ourselves with those truths and set our hearts to obey His direction. Then we trust that God will work and not only guide our path but also transform our minds and hearts. The day will come when that pain or discomfort from helplessness will be greatly replaced by the joy of being free, and this will lead us to praise God.
