The story is told of a dear friend and member of the church, who died after a long life of love and service.

At the funeral, his children rose one by one to tell stories about his father and a common theme could soon be noticed: that his most unique and extraordinary quality was his willingness to serve others, no matter what the need was.

He was one of those men always willing to lend a hand, do a favor, some peculiar work, or simply offer a transport to someone. One of his daughters mentioned that wherever he went, he carried a toolbox and a pair of mechanic clothes in the trunk of the car, "just in case someone needed some repair."

Many times, when we hear the word "courage," we think of heroic acts in periods of crisis. However, in our daily lives, we should not overlook the courage to simply be there. Lives change when we faithfully provide for our families, take care of the elderly, or pay attention to a friend in difficulty. Persisting in making this world a better place to live is definitely an expression of courage.

Albert Schweitzer, the great Christian missionary, doctor and theologian, was once questioned in an interview. They asked him to mention the name of a great person alive today. He immediately replied: "The coolest person in the universe, is that incognito individual who at this moment has come in love to help another."

As your day unfolds, remember that you could be someone's hero.

3 John 1: 5
Beloved, you faithfully conduct yourself when you serve the brothers, especially strangers.

Doing "good" is an attitude of the soul that leads us to happiness, Jesus urged us to do it as a fruit of the spirit.
