STEEMCHURCH - Break the curses: Is it biblical?

There has been much confusion around this controversial question among the children of God today, there is a large group that thinks that we still have the consequences of our parents' sin, but that they think this is due to the generational curses that God sets in a family or a group of generations and that these generations should be purged of those curses.

The reality is that the word of God teaches something completely different, but there is a relationship between what is the next generation and the sin of the parents. but it is not via a generational curse that is passed through the genes, if not the natural consequences that a generation copies from a previous generation.

For example, if a child is raised in a home with an alcoholic father and then that child becomes an alcoholic, that is not a curse of alcoholism, that is a pattern that the child saw in his home and copied, where he was exposed to a vice from an early age, where alcohol was probably given to him as a child and he was now affected by a consequence of his father's sin, but, of course, that is different from saying that there are now several generations cursed by God to be alcoholics.

One of the texts used to defend this point is Exodus 20: 5, where God threatens to visit the perversity of parents in children, up to the third and fourth generation of those who hate it.

"You shall not worship them nor serve them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, who punish the iniquity of parents over children until the third and fourth generation of those who hate me" (Ex 20.5).

However, teaching that God causes the consequences of the sins of the parents to fall on the children is only half of the truth. The Scripture also tells us that if a son of an idolatrous father and an adulterer, seeing the evil deeds of his father fears God and walks in his ways, nothing that the father did will fall on him. Conversion and individual repentance "break", in the existence of people, the "hereditary curse"

Through the prophet Ezekiel, God rebuked them affirming that moral responsibility is personal and individual before Him:

"This is the soul of the father and the soul of my son, the soul that sins, will die" (Ezekiel 18: 4, 20)

And that, by conversion and a righteous life, the individual is free from the "curse" of the sins of his ancestors, see Ezekiel 18: 14-19. This passage is very important, since it shows us how God himself interprets (through Ezekiel) the meaning of Exodus 20: 5.

Applying to our days, it is evident that the true believer has already broken with his past and with the spiritual implications of the sins of his ancestors when, repentant, he came to Christ in faith.

There is more, the apostle Paul clarifies that the writing of the debt that was against us, that is, the curse of the law, has no effect on us since Jesus annulled him on the cross.

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse to us for it is written:Cursed is everyone who hangs from a tree (Galatians 3:13).

Therefore, all condemnation that weighed upon us was completely removed when Christ paid, sufficiently and effectively, our guilt before God. Now, if the work of Christ on Calvary in our favor was powerful enough to remove from us the curse of God's holy law, how much more can it take away anything that could be used by Satan to claim rights over us, including pacts made by us with evil entities, or by our parents in our ignorance.
