THE COST OF DISCIPLESHIP
OPENING PASSAGE - LUKE CHAPTER 14 VERSES 28-33
"For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? "
"Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, "
"Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish. "
"Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand? "
"Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace. "
"So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple. "
Jesus explains how as Christians we must be prepared, for we are his church and we must serve him with all our hearts. Being a Christian is not what we do partly in, if we truly want to get the blessings of God's kingdom, we should obey all his commandments and live in true accordance to his word.
That is the true cost of discipleship.
Today, a lot of Christians are faced with a lot of distractions that turn their faces away from the church and fill their lines of service to God with disorderliness. When such "christians" are faced with the consequences, they are quick to lose faith and even dare to blame God. When we read the Bible, we would understand that God does want the best for us at the cost of true dedication to his service all so we can enjoy his kingdom well as his children.
Let us continuously pray to God for his mercy in the times our faith falters.
Let us pray for patience to understand God's word and serve him in the pureness of our hearts.
Let us pray for our brothers and sisters.
Let us pray for those who pray for us and those that do not.
