Discovering the 4th Art Theater – An Immersion During the 2022 JCC

It was during the 33rd edition of the Carthage Film Festival (JCC) that I had the pleasure of visiting the 4th Art Theater, a venue steeped in history, nestled in the heart of Tunis's vibrant Habib Bourguiba Avenue. The festival, a true celebration of African and Arab cinema, transforms the city center each year into a vibrant cultural hub, where a passion for the seventh art blends with the discovery of new artistic sensibilities.

A vibrant cultural heritage for decades

The Théâtre Le 4ème Art is more than just a performance hall, it is a part of Tunisian cultural heritage, one that has evolved with the times while retaining its authentic soul. Originally built during the colonial era, the venue has undergone several renovations, notably to accommodate digital projections, while retaining its Italian-style theater essence. Today, it is administered by the Tunisian National Theater, under the supervision of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, and continues to host contemporary plays, arthouse films, experimental performances, and intellectual debates.

The entrance to the theater

The entrance, although modest in appearance, exudes classic elegance, the dark red painted facade, adorned with a metal awning, proudly displays the name of the theater in gold letters, in French and Arabic, To the right, a colorful vertical poster indicates the day's program and screening times, the atmosphere outside is lively, as the avenue, largely pedestrianized during the JCC, transforms into a gathering place for lovers of culture, debate and art.

A warm and modern atmosphere in the reception hall

A welcoming café space in the heart of the theater

As soon as you cross the threshold, you discover a modern café area, much appreciated by festival-goers. This space, named "Ben Yedder," is meticulously designed with a long brushed steel counter, white and red tables, a menu offering hot drinks, refreshments, and light snacks. The space is noisy without being oppressive, lively without being chaotic, and a perfect introduction to what this space represents, a human theater, at the service of art and the community.

An organized queue and welcoming staff

Guided access to the theater before the screening

As the time of the session approaches, a queue forms quietly. The volunteers, recognizable by their JCC badges, direct the spectators courteously and efficiently. Entry into the room is smooth, through a sober corridor with subdued lighting that accentuates the feeling of entering a place of reflection, silence and emotion.

A cozy, comfortable, and conducive room

In place, ready to experience the cinema

The room itself is undeniably charming, the red velvet armchairs, arranged in tight tiers, offer appreciable comfort, the slightly inclined floor allows good visibility from any row, the side walls are covered with padded red panels, offering both visual cachet and quality acoustic absorption, the lighting dims gently, leaving room for the screen and silence.

A quality screening and an attentive audience

The theatre during the screening of the Spanish film

The quality of the projection was satisfactory, a sharp image, clear sound and immersion facilitated by the complete darkness, the audience, made up of students, film buffs, Tunisian and foreign artists, remained silent and concentrated throughout the session, this respect for the work and the place is undoubtedly one of the greatest assets of this room.

Ticket and admission price: cultural accessibility at the heart of the project

Full price: 4 Tunisian dinars = approximately 10.9 STEEM (at the rate of 0.366 Tunisian dinars/STEEM)

The ticket, at a very affordable price (4 Tunisian dinars), allowed me to access a Spanish film of great sensitivity. This popular pricing is faithful to the mission of the JCC to democratize access to quality cinema for all audiences, without social or economic distinction.

Conclusion: A place at the crossroads of theater and cinema

Outside the theater

What I experienced at the 4ème Art that evening went far beyond a simple cinema outing, I felt a deep pride in having a place so involved in Tunisian cultural life, which combines tradition and modernity, sobriety and warmth, openness and local roots, a place that I highly recommend adding to any cultural map, and that I am happy to help people discover through Steem Atlas.

Thank you very much for reading, it's time to invite my friends @miftahulrizky, @adylinah, @karianaporras to participate in this contest.
