STEEMIT VS FacebooksteemCreated with Sketch.

I have been a part of the Facebook wave since 2010 or so, but just joined the Steemit community within the last few months and I have made a key distinction between the 2 platforms. ***These is an opinion based distinction so don't be afraid to disagree with my analysis.

Screen Shot 2018-01-27 at 10.12.06 AM.png Although the "steemit" platform isn't that difficult to access for a computer savvy person, I can imagine the headache of trying to explain this platform to my mom over the phone. In addition, I find the home page kind of confusing to begin with! I find myself showing this website to friends who are currently trading cryptocurrency and they are astonished by the fact that I would invest a chunk of my portfolio into this platform. They all have the same preconceived notion, "No way this platform could ever compete with Facebook." "Why is that?" I usually ask, and I am told that it's not user friendly to people who are not trading cryptocurrency. Thus, it is only attractive to computer savvy bloggers whom also trade cryptocurrency.

Facebook, on the other hand, has been around for over a decade and has mastered the networking platform with the "ease of use" factor i.e. (my grandparents use Facebook). The big distinction Facebook has over Steem, Twitter, or Instagram is how easy it is to set up. You could be new to Facebook's platform and create a profile in less than 10 min with picture and 1st post. In addition, facebook automatically links you with your friends, relatives, and people who are in your contacts.

The main advantage to Facebook is the ease of use for a wide variety of people over a vast array of ethnicities, age groups, and demographics. The major drawback with Facebook is if a person get 1K likes from a post, they will never be able to translate that into monetary value which is where STEEM comes into play. The major advantage to using STEEM obviously is the ability to profit off of going "viral"! The drawback as of now is most people on the platform going "viral" are mainly posting about cryptocurrency. On other platforms, such as youtube or Facebook, people can go "viral" with just about any post such as pictures, cooking videos, fashion blogging, just to name a few. I feel once the STEEM platform is widely adopted, this could change the internet blogging world for the better, however, it will be a rocky road competing with other sites already adopted by millions of users. Needless to say, I truly believe in this platform and decided to drop 50 percent of my portfolio into it.

Key Questions I have for my fellow Steamonians?

  1. How could we promote the STEEMIT platform to people who are not following cryptocurrency?
  2. How can bloggers who are not associated with crypto use STEEMIT without any STEEM and start earning money?
  3. When will STEEMIT go from the beta version to the "live" site?
  4. How can we simplify the description of this platform to the common person?

Thank you all for reading my post and feel free to comment!
