The "petrified" dog thought that she would never be loved and was afraid of people.
One day, a woman noticed a dog with a "petrified" face.
It was quite challenging to capture the dog. She had never interacted with humans before, so it took some time to approach her. Every time someone tried to get close, the poor thing would run away on trembling paws.
Once the stray dog finally arrived at the shelter, she was given the name Petra, which translates from Greek as "stone."
The emaciated and sick dog ended up in the hands of a volunteer who had extensive experience in treating and rehabilitating animals with various injuries, illnesses, and socialization levels. When the volunteer saw Petra, she immediately knew she had a responsibility to help her.
The dog was in a deplorable state and underwent treatment for various illnesses, including mange and leishmaniasis, an infection transmitted by mosquitoes that, if left untreated, can be fatal.
The "petrified" condition of Petra's skin was a result of the mange. Veterinarians started treating her physical issues, and gradually her health improved. However, her psychological state still caused concern.
"After another unsuccessful attempt to take the dog for a walk, the volunteer said, 'She still can't trust humans.'" Every time one of the volunteers or veterinarians approached Petra, she would growl and hide in the farthest corner of her kennel.
The stray dog was so deeply afraid of people that her first encounter with a veterinarian resulted in involuntary urination. She also treated her fellow canines with caution. However, none of the shelter staff were ready to give up.
The second meeting between the volunteer and Petra went more smoothly - they were able to step away from the kennel for a few meters, but this "walk" lasted for a whole hour. With each attempt, the dog became more confident and joyful, and the distance she covered increased.
After several months, the animal began to accept human affection, started playing with its toys, and became friends with other shelter residents. Petra was now ready to receive and give love.
The emaciated and sick dog, afflicted with various illnesses and a complete lack of trust in humans, blossomed into a friendly and beautiful creature. After making a full recovery, she spent approximately 10 more months at the shelter until she was adopted by a couple.
Now Petra is a happy dog with loving owners and a roof over her head.
It's heartwarming to see people who are willing to patiently assist animals that have not only health issues but also trust issues with humans. Thank you for watching! Please give it a thumbs up!
