Actually, depending upon how far out you go, fusion might well be the free energy for the planet which powers everything.
There are many breakthroughs on that front....it is still a long way off although AI might speed it up.
It is interesting to note how solutions today are simply bridges....they are temporary.
But yes, abundant free energy is crucial. Once that is achieved, we will see a totally different world.
True Fusion power might be the way to go aside from solar, wind and ocean current power generation scalability will get better.
Indeed the solutions we find now might be just stepping stones to get better tech in the future.
Yes it is interesting to watch the progression so that we see how some things might be only temporary solutions.
Of course, the joke is fusion is always 20 years out....so who knows?
