I had the same experience in the early days. I kept posting and commenting anyway as it was fun. That's how I built a following. It may be best for new users to not use up all their good material early on.
Agreed! It is "hard" differently now. It feels like it was worth it now, but there were some rough times! :)
What a new user sees as "good material" may not be the best they can come up with down the line. I believe growth is possible here in steemit in every sense of the word. Be consistent, don't give up, dont look to others in envy. While I can't say i've "made it" after my time here, i can say that Steemit has made me learned to do stuff i never thought i could back when i first started (I use to be deathly afraid of GIMP).
that itself is priceless growth.
