STEEM Thoughts: The Power of a Vote!

in #steem7 years ago

Voting is vital for the STEEM ecosystem.

Everything runs on votes, and without votes the platform wouldn't be here now would it? Having said that, and considering the importance of votes and voting, I'm writing today's post on the importance of this deed.

A vote, no matter how small, is powerful, and let me show you just how important it is for every single one of us in the blockchain.

If that is something you'd like reading, read below...

Votes Change Lives: Newbies on STEEMIT

image.png

There's no clearer example of votes changing lives than those done on newbie accounts.

This blockchain has a lot of people coming in, but a lot of people going out as well. The new Steemian came, poured some hours on some really great posts, and then saw no reward for it.

Meanwhile he takes a look at shitposts on trending and decides to leave.

On the other hand, if you vote on his content, he may see that it is possible.

Getting that first 0.10 is sometimes enough to turn someone who was going to quit into a helpful member of the community.

Sometimes, people just need a little nudge!

Veterans Need Them Too: Don't Be Fooled

war-3135386_960_720.png

On the other hand you have those veterans, those who already have a lot of votes usually.

Well, those guys need votes as well.

It may be shocking for the newbie to find out about this, but most of those votes are bought in order to raise visibility.

Most veterans spend more than they earn on votes, which is normal since they're aiming at visibility, but people still need to vote for them or else they'll get out.

And with no veterans here, the platform will lose most of what is carrying it forward.

Remember, these veterans are Steem Power holders, which means they hold Steem, which means they keep the price up.

If they sell and leave, Steem price will go down, plus the blockchain will lose its early adopters and start to die.

Voting is important, if the content is good - then vote it!

Voting is Investing: Think About It This Way...

By voting, you're investing your influence on rewarding someone, that means you are increasing someone's value each time you vote - so make sure to invest in the right players.

Think like if you were investing into making what kind of content you're voting on more visible.

This is what makes it so important that you vote for good content rather than filler low effort pieces that are just there as a place for people to place rewards.

Ensure you make the right content providers more visible, and don't contribute to giving visibility to low effort content no matter how good their vote is.

I never vote for trash content, even if those who produce it vote for me, and that's what everyone should do.

In Conclusion: Don't Let Your Voting Power Be Idle!

In conclusion, voting empowers those you vote for, and no matter how small or how big, people need you to vote.

What do I mean with people?

The community, of course, BUT the whole blockchain as well! With no votes, this place would be barren, and with no votes most good bloggers would leave.

Not only that, there are also a lot of charitable initiatives you can support with your vote, or issues to raise awareness to, much like noble causes such as @familyprotection.

Your vote can change... or it can keep the status quo...

You're the one who has to think on the best times to hold it, and the best times to give it away.

Cheers

Great information from you
Thanks for sharing

One thing that nobody notices and I don't know why but I feel like you will definitely notice it, is that not everyone can produce good content.

But almost everyone on this platform can read and write.

So why does everyone put so much effort in creating their own content but nobody makes half the effort to read other people content and make some good comments on the post they like.

That's why I value good comments the most on this platform.

It means they have read the post and shared their opinion on it.

That's why I try to spend most of my upvotes on upvoting the comments than upvoting posts.

I believe that you can share this issue more clearly if you make a post about it, than I can share it in my comment.

But only if you feel it worthy of sharing.

Some of us are great topic starters, while others are great commenters. Both need each other. The creaters offer the commenters the platform.
Why I do find pity is that most of us do read a post, place a genuine comment but forget to read the other comments. It is just ignoring an opportunity to interact, to meet new Steemians.
I did earn more with genuine comments than with writing posts! For sure it is the step up that new Steemians need to use!

I agree with both of you, the lack of interaction and comments is one of the main issues of Steemit, as far as I'm concerned. I've been on this platform on-and-off for a while and I haven't started producing content yet, but I enjoy commenting very much. Unfortunately not every creator is able or willing to sift through comments and have a spontaneous discussion.

If the author is not willing to interact with his user base, he is just not worth our attention. I do know Steemians, who does get 30 or more replies on his post and he does react on all of the genuine comments! That's the way to do it. @taskmaster4450, yep I am referring to you. He is my role model on this part of the game! We don't always agree but at least he does his utmost best to be genuine and interactive!

Indeed!
That's why I always answer 100% of my comments... The truth is interaction is key on here, this is a small tribe when you consider other content platforms, and people above 60 in rep mostly know everyone else above 60 as well.

So friendships, communities and interaction play a larger role here, on this "small village"

I know only a few above 60 :)
There is no problem with having friendship circles, as long as we try to keep expanding them!

It was the step that old steemians always used to use.

Hi Looftee

I think that's the problem with Steemit. Its inhabitants are predominantly content creators. We need the readers to come -- those people that just surf the web to read interesting articles.

How do we make this happen?

  • The application process to join has to be easy and quick
  • We need to populate Trending and Hot with quality posts
  • We need to discourage shitposts (by not voting for them)

I agree about not voting on the shitposts @spiritualmax. Thanks for the article.

cheers

I agree that quality posts should gain more traction, but I don't think that they will ever get much.

Aw

Maybe -- glorious utopian dream -- one day this place will be visited by lots of readers with voting power. I hope. Until we get a good balance of readers/creators, it'll be chaotic and unstable.

well, like Peter Baelish said in GOT, chaos is the ladder to success.

LOL

I only watched a bit of the first episode of GOT. Nobody gave me the heads-up about the sex scenes. I sat down to watch with my kid thinking it would be like Lord of the Rings (or something). Then the dwarf character arrived on screen. Oops. :P

SIGNATURE.png

Well, on the bright side, now you will read everything about the movie/series before watching it with your family.

Everything makes you better!

Hahaha, yes that was a fast lesson for me :P

SIGNATURE.png

Well, to me it's all about marketing and the reason people join this platform.

Everyone joins this platform to make money, not to read quality content.

That's why we have an audience of writers, not readers.... most of us joined because of the rewards, and so we're more interested in writing and building audiences and communities than consuming.

We need to attract consumers, and for that we need to keep on getting on those search results. On the other hand, even those who come to consume are always facing those dollar signs at the bottom and soon turn to writing as well, trying to rake in the tokens.

Yepp, that's the real reason.

Great post with some great thoughts on voting to keep in mind. This should be pinned on the front page of steemit to remind everyone about how important voting is to the success of steemit/steem.

*Resteemed/upvoted

Wouldn't mind it :D
Cheers! Thanks for the vote and resteem.

Indeed, voting is key. When I first came in I was quite disappointed to only be able to give a single penny to others. @wwf delegated 500 SP to me and that changed everything. My attitude really got much more optimistic. Whatever we can do to lift another is the key to the health of Steemit.

@wwf is one of the best souls here, if not the best.

To me, he is the prime example of how humanity would look like if it could ascend past its flaws... now, White Walking Feather has a lot of flaws, just like any human, but his awareness that our existence here is not all that is and the fact that he discovered what really matters makes him suppress his flaws on a level people who still don't "get it" can never do.

Congrats on your delegation, make him proud @mistermercury!

@spiritualmax, I must admit that what you said has got to be the most conscious, aware and insightful observation I've ever seen from anybody. You honour me greatly and I'm moved to tears to have you say such beautiful and loving things like that. Thank you my dear spiritual brother for seeing past the mask and for peering into my spirit. That is the level of connection that I'm looking for and it warms my heart greatly to see other people who 'get it'. <3 I have a deep respect and love for you my brother. Peace to you.

Wow! I'm glad you think so, that means what we think is really aligned... We're all part of the same thing, shards of a single "reality"... to much for our "sharded spirits" to grasp.

In this life, we're missing pieces of ourselves. But we're here for a purpose, I still dont know what that is, and I never will, but just knowing these things is enough, there are too many who don't even take some time off to really think everything over.

Stay well brother!

Wow, a 500 SP delegation, that is a great vote of confidence! It makes you a virtual minnow!
Still as a red fish it is hard to leave a small footprint on the steemit ecosystem!

You should join the Empire... we're a noble group and do not circle jerk each other, so you don't even need to feel guily over it :D

Is there something where I can read more about the Empire? Could be interesting!

First post on it:
https://steemit.com/steemit/@spiritualmax/crypto-empire-meet-my-community

Later:
https://steemit.com/steemit/@spiritualmax/crypto-empire-meet-my-community

There are more posts on my profile as well, with more embassies and communities joining.

Thx, will read them now or tomorrow. First I have to reply to some replies.

I made a post also yesterday about voting, but more from the perspective of some users spending their voting power on downvotes rather than upvoting good content and using their steem power in a war of downvotes. I consider upvoting good content much more useful than downvoting crap posts from the trending page. $1 vote for a newbie means alot. I know what it means for me...

Indeed, but by flagging they are making rewards available to other posts... it is roughly the same thing when measured globally.

brilliant post of the day

Thanks man, glad you liked it!

This was what exactly happened to me when I came in January. I was sold the idea that anyone can earn producing good content. I started writing but alas not even encouraging number of views talkless of votes.

I left through February and came back March. Sometimes those votes encourage one even if they are worth $0.

We will keep pushing though, to achieve anything meaningful a lot of hardwork has to go in.

I do appreciate a genuine comment more than an upvote. It is the biggest appreciation of a post. People can upvote without reading the post but they cannot place a genuine post without reading it!

yes it's incredibly hard in the beginning, one has all those expectations and what people have said.
I saw a you tube video and the and in there was said u can earn $ 20 a day just on comment just after a 1 or 2weeks. u Ned to do a lot of comments to do it..

Mhh, is sounds like propaganda :)
I do earn more on Steemit by placing genuine comments than with writing own posts!
You just need to be genuine and not focus on one topic! But genuine is the most important part!
But by placing genuine comments and reading/replying on other comments, you will get noticed. It will grow your group of followers, it could earn some Steem power. But don't focus on the money, this is the biggest mistake most of us do! The value will come, but we have to work hard for it!
What's a social media platform without interaction?

ye when a When I saw the video I had a laugh but it's a little sad that people believe in such things as money just failing from the sky here. its a art form to make good comment and u Ned to care on the post u are commenting on.
at first I comments on a lot of stuff now I'm more selective.

When I began I made a whole lot more by commenting than by posting myself.

For those who start, I always tell them to go hard on comments!

It is one of the key to leave your footprint behind. I do call those the dark days, when it seems that nobody is noticing you!

Indeed, you really need to grind.

Not only that, commenting is vital for all of those starting, as I say in my guides, even I was making a lot more money from commenting than by posting at the start.

It's how it works!

Cheers!

I've been known to run mine as low as 35% but currently it's at 84%

Yeah, I went a bit overboard plenty of times myself... it's hard to keep track when you're on a spree!

I try to now stay at least 75% to avoid bw issues

Here's my vote for this beautiful post no that it will do any good but a vote is a vote. You are absolutely right to say that entire needs a vote if deserving.

Thank you for investing in me @wa2qr :)

I totally agree with you. Every vote matters no matter how small it may be.

I'm always counting with yours, it always comes :D

Cheers Dawny

Hahahah super cute vote but it's from the heart. lol
