I escaped from the hospital! - Why you should NEVER get sick in a shitcountry
I have to admit it: It feels good to be back home!!! Today, there wont be an usual science-related article posted here, instead I decided to do something many people do: Complain
We all know that complaining about something is a great way to let some steam off while we attempt to convince ourselves that we are right where others aren't (something that is actually true most of the time). So, I said: Why not?
The current scene began around a month ago (because the whole thing has been going on since January)
Abdominal pain, head to the hospital guard, misdiagnosed gastritis, went back home, more pain, cholecystitis... Perfect
Ok, it wasn't so bad after all, a few antibiotics fixed the swelling and pain and I was ready for surgery (Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy is a rather simple thing). The surgeon told me:
Go home, next week get an appointment for surgery at the front desk and we'll get you up an running.Ok, PERFECT!!! -Bullshit- What I didn't know is that he was buying time.
As I arrived to my appointment the next week, I found out that a few pre-surgical tests were "ommited". One involved a cardiologist looking at my electrocardiogram and saying "yes, that is a working hearth, you may proceed", the other one involved the anesthesiologist's approval... That relied on the cardiologist's judgment.
Guess what? The current cardiologist was on strike, the secondary one, on vacation not returning before July 7th.
I'm fucked.
Ok, lets be optimistic, it is not hurting, I can hold on to this for the time that it is needed until I can finally get my surgery done. -Bullshit- A week later, the pain struck again, stronger than ever.
Hospital, guard, ER, 1/10 dissolution of morphine (20cc total) 1 dose of 2cc. Pain gone, echography:
OH, look, I can't find the stone in your gallbladder, but I can see one in your liver!
There's nothing to be worried about, they just shove a hose with a camera down your throat as if you were Sasha Grey on meth and push the stones around by squirting saline solution all around it.
Well, shit. It turn out that the previous single surgery that was needed now became 2. And now I even have the potential to become patient of 3 surgeries, if any more stones spread int... for example, my pancreas.
Of course, there's always options!
Private medicine, of course is one of them!
I made the needed inquiries, removing the stones from my liver: 2800 USD
Removing my gallbladder: 2050 USD
Great, I do not have that money... So the option is there, but cannot be taken.
Tired of being walked around while they dosed me with prescription free gastric protectors and painkillers... I decided to come back home, staying at the hospital for over a month is not an option I am willing to take, my family needs a sustain.
So, here I am, logged in, found out that my wife installed over 5 toolbars at her computer. Made it to steemit.chat (I really missed you guys!!!), Saw a couple of new users that behave as human beings... I can say I am happy.
I do have a lot of things to prepare in case of the worst case scenario (yes, you can die from it... Especially at a shitcountry). Once I'm done with that, I'll try to catch up with the @steem.chess tournaments (I believe I'll be hosting one this upcoming week with no major problems). I am back, you won't get rid of me so easily!
Dude, your insides are gross!
I feel you man.. my country is kind of the same.. you have 1-2 specialists that are good but not cheap and have quite the busy schedule and the rest just experiment on you and make things worse.. I've had a pretty bad run with a bad infection in my throat which no one really diagnosed properly for 3 months.. and me at the time - a professional singer and actor was having the best time of my life.. Nowadays I read and read and try to fix myself up and just pray i don't need surgeries or any serious hospital related help.. i hope it all works for the best for you and you get rid of them buggers in your body!
It seems that shitcountries share the same medical shortage.
Well i am living in the UK now for a bit less than 2 years and in London it isn't any better. Haven't experienced it myself because i try to avoid doctors at all costs.. but from what i've heard others complain about is waiting for ages for appointments. If you need a specialist you might have to wait for weeks just to get an appointment with them and months or more for a surgery. At least for foreigners like me that is but about 50% of the population if not more is foreign in London..
Do not take chances on your health, If possible stay 10 miles away from hospitals but we are humans and we will get sick once in every while, so choose some good doctors or go abroad if you have serious health issues but do not compromise on your health @renzoarg , i am a living example of this, due to a bad surgery i am disabled for the last 7 years and i cannot walk now.
Good post

follow me and will follow back
I'm still trying to find the joke...
There is something funny in every tragedy!
Not sure what you call a shitcountry but an ambulance ride in the US can easily cost $1500 -$2000, I didn't find the procedures you mentioned particularly expensive.
Huh really ??? 1500$-2000$ so they just take you to the hospital??? Thats insane ... In Spain this is for free.
$2050 for a gallbladder , I would have done it for $1200
I learned something today. This is the cool, educational kind of gross that really gets me intrigued. Glad you're still alive and kicking - please be safe!
God Bless you :)
