POLICE BRUTALITY.... vs.... POLICE HARASSMENT

in #steem8 years ago (edited)

I have had my own share of VERY UNFORTUNATE experiences with my small town Police "Services"...

These cops seem to have nothing better to do than to 'fabricate-their-own-'work jobs'...this is a small town, and crime does happen, but, when resources are abused or misused, it leads to QUESTION THE POLICE.

I don't believe ALL police behave brutally... I personally know a few cops (Constable On Patrol) and they ARE GOOD PEOPLE.  But, like the video seems to show, re; 'pack mentality" they can and do behave like a RABID WOLF PACK?!

I live in a small, northern community...with an unusually high number of police patrolling our streets.  They keep themselves busy though-  busting the odd narcotics dealer (good), keeping tabs on the drug community , responding to the impact of the drug community and getting a lot of great PR for their good work in this aspect.

----therefore the community feels SAFE

The odd thing is that I don't live in a drug community!  No more than any other community.

Yes, there is a large population of individuals with mental health problems due to the fact of the regional mental health facility being a part of our community.  So, where is the training on compassion...these are typically the people who are 'targeted' for harassment...and certainly keep our Police "services" busy...and perhaps how they justify the unusually large police staff who "service" the community.

UNFORTUNATELY, there are some people who are just FED UP with the way the police behave with such dis-mis- compassion and speak up.

IF you speak up, you become a targeted individual and become subject to police harassment that is emotionally as harmful as physical brutality.

IF you question the logic behind being pulled over for random 'spot checks' EVERY DAY- to the point where your husband and father are compelled to meet with the Chief of Police to try to understand WHY their wife, daughter, children, grandchildren have been subjected to such unjustified and intense scrutiny.

It's almost as if there is a whole department assigned to "me" ..thus the unusually large numbers of police staff in this community....and, NO, I'm not being 'dramatic'...maybe about a whole department...but I am stating personal FACT.

My children are afraid of the police...My children don't trust the police...My children would rather fight for themselves than call for assista nce from the police.

THAT IS WRONG.

AND I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE

I strongly believe that compassionate training, prevention, fewer police, psychological testing on new cops, etc...etc...is required.

PREVENT CRIME...

PROTECT THE INNOCENT

-AND-

STOP HARASSING THOSE WHO HAVE THE 'BALLS' TO CALL YOU OUT ON YOUR BEHAVIOUR,

It's our tax dollars who pay for your $100k /year job... so,

DO YOUR JOB...

My personal story of police harassment -due to speaking out and questioning rationale- is HORRIFIC and inappropriate for this post..... MAYBE SOME DAY.
