Football Club Barcelona (Catalan: fútbol Club Barcelona; Catalan Pronunciation: [fubbɔɫ kɫub bərsəɫonə] (listen)), commonly known as Barcelona and Barca, [2] is a professional football club, which is located in the city of Barcelona, in the Catalan city of Catalan.
Under the leadership of a gentleman named Joan Gamper, in 1899, a group of Swiss, English and Catalan citizens founded the group. The club has become a symbol of Catalan culture, whose main theme is "Més que un club" (more than a club). The club also has an official theme song titled Kant del Barca, written by Jima Picas and Yosep Maria Espinas. [3] There is no specific ownership of the club, but the supporters carry it and they are its directors. Barcelona is currently the world's second most valuable club, with a net worth of $ 3.56 billion. In earnings, it is the world's second richest club, with annual revenue of 560.8 million euros. [4] [5]
Among the domestic competitions, Barcelona won 24 La Laiga, 29 Copa del Rey, 12 Spanish Super Cups, 3 Copa Eva Duarte and 2 Copa de la Liga trophies. Barcelona has won twenty trophies in international club football, including 4 UEFA Champions League, 1 European Cup, 4th UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, 5th UEFA Super Cup, Record 3 Inter City Fairs Cup, and Record 3 FIFA Club World Cup. [6] In the World Club Rankings released by IFFHS, Barcelona achieved the top position in 1997, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2015 [7] [8] and currently at number 3 in the UEFA Club Ranking. [9]
Barcelona has one of the highest-paid football teams in the world and has the largest number of supporters in major social networks. [10] [11] Barcelona's players have won a record number of Ballon d'Or (11) and FIFA Player of the Year (7). When the club was founded in 2010, three players from the club's Youth Academy (Messi, Iniesta and Javy) were nominated for the FIFA Ballon d'Or at the top three.
Barcelona is the only European club, which has participated in continental football tournaments in each season since 1955, and like Atletic Bilbao and Real Madrid, they have never been dropped from La Liga. In 2009, Barcelona won the treble as the first Spanish club (La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League). In the same year, as the world's first football club, they won all six titles in a year to complete the sextrack. That year, they won the Spanish Super Copa, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup title, along with the previously mentioned trends. [12] In Barcelona, Barcelona won the Champions League title in 2011 and won five of those titles in that year, leaving only the Copa del Rey title. [13] [14] [15] [16] On 6 June 2015, winning the Champions League title was the first European team to win the Champions League, which is the Barcelona team under Pep Guardiola, who has managed to win 14 trophies in 4 years. As Barcelona has twice won record treble.
