"The Job-ocalypse" and My Take on The Role of Steem in this "Future Scenario"
Hey everyone! It's been a little while since my last post here on Steemit! The following are some of my thoughts on the future of the job market from a conversation I had with a friend recently. I put them together in my notes and thought that others might learn a few things, so here we go:
Here are a few points that I'll cover in this post:
- AI - The Impact of Automation on the Availability of Jobs
- How do people "make a living"?
- What do we do with all this time?
- What impact do platforms like Steem have on this future?
The impact of automation on the availability of jobs is relatively straight-forward. Many jobs can be automated for greater efficiency than having a human do it (not all jobs, but a vast majority of jobs). I saw a statistic that claimed 40% or more of current jobs will be automized and irrelevant in the next 40 years. That's a lot of people out of a job and looking for an entirely new career path!!!
So the next logical question is "how do people make a 'living'?
Well, I think the very idea itself of "making a living" is going to need to adapt to the changing circumstances. With more and more automation, companies are going to grow larger and larger and the job market will get smaller and smaller. With this reality, I think some form of universal basic income (UBI) will be necessary. I'm not sure what kind of structure it would be, but I imagine that it will be a basic income for every citizen that fulfills basic needs like shelter, food, clothing, etc.
So the next step in this logical progression is "what do we do with all this time"...
Well this is where things get tough... Most people don't actually know what to do with themselves when they don't have an 8 hour work day each day of the week to keep them busy. We're going to have to teach everyone to be more creative and follow hobbies and other pursuits that actually interest them and make them happy.
Society will have to shift from doing mindless work to doing mindful "work" that we actually enjoy. I think it can be a really positive direction for humankind, but it will definitely be an adjustment.
What impact do platforms like Steem have on this future?
I see Steem playing a role in a future like this... Steem has the potential to allow content creators, professionals, craftsmen, travelers, and everyone else who has some special talent/interest to earn for being passionate about their interests.
If we are to have all of this free time, then we'll need to find hobbies and outside interests to keep ourselves happy and moving forward. Having a platform like Steem and the apps built on top of it that allow us to share these hobbies with other individuals and also connect on a deeper level while "earning a living" is a great future that I would love to be a part of!
steemit actually can be one of the top game-changers in the future. People without any censorship can show their work and get paid for it without losing even a single $$. People from less fortunate countries that are taken advantage of can literally make a new beginning and live out of steemit. Also in a way steemit is build on truth and trust. What i mean by this is that as you upload something and make a post it will forever leave. your ''legacy'' will be forever here! Everything is transparent so it's hard for someone to hide and take advantage of others that easy.
Finally, even if some people can't live out of steemit it will be another source of income for them and an opening to show their work and hobbies. As more and more jobs are becoming freelancing type steemit once again will be one step ahead. it's already way beyond it's era and have full potentials to become as i said a game changer.
As a Venezuelan I can testify that Steemit is an important source of income for a lot of people in my community, Steemit is a magnet of broken economies. To give you a hint, with 2 or 3 steem we can buy groceries for a lot of days.
@javo1096
wow it has more value than i though so. Is the situation still that bad down there or the media exaggerate a bit too much?
Oh, not exaggerating at all, just search for some Venezuelan news, all the poverty, starvation, food shortages, failing health system and oppression is true, even worse than some news say when you get to see those things with your own eyes. That's one of the main reasons I'm here on Steemit, broken economies and shitty governments make people search for other sources of income.

steemit ''goal'' or one of its goal is the exact opposite of what you wrote as a good idea for an investor to invest. It is a free platform that everybody can upload whatever they want or things that would upload-post in facebook, instagram, personla blogs other social media and actually earn money out of that.
The though of a behind the scenes team of moderators checking what quality content is, isn't exactly fair and absolute judgment cause pretty easily if one of them was my friend he would turn the blind eye. Another argument to that would be what is considered to be quality content your perspective may be different than mine.
I am here a while and abusing the rewards pool or taking advantage of other members is a thing and a big one for ofc the sake of money. There are people who try to fight this back but as in real life the more money you have the more power. Steemit inc, if they want for steemit to reach it's full potential should make an ''alliance'' with those that fight back the abusers and in a week ''end them all''. A good thing steemit has is that nobody can hide so with little search you can actually find the abusers.
i will check your profile-blog later on when i will have free time. If you have any questions that i can answer let me know

@kendrahill, I'm just getting into this conversation and it's a great one. Here are a few of my responses for this comment - I'll keep posting more too as I progress through this conversation ;)
Your idea for "moderators" is actually quite a good idea. Steemit, Inc is already working on a similar idea that's related to the "Communities" update. Instead of moderators, Steemit, Inc is calling these people "Oracles".
These Oracles (to my understanding) will be in charge of "validating" peoples' accounts within certain communities. If the community so chooses, they will have their own SMT with it's own rewards pool and set rewards. Their token will be distributed how they see fit and one of those parameters can be for only validated accounts.
The oracle process itself is rather complex. From what I understand, it's built in a relatively unbias way.
About what you said where people are not allowed to upvote their own blog posts - that's actually not true, you can hit the upvote button on any of your own blog posts as you see fit.
For Reputation - I think there's a lot that can be done with rep scores. I used to look at rep scores as an indication of somebody's "age" on Steemit. Now I mostly ignore them.
I think that the communities update will also bring a new type of "rep score" system within certain specific communities who choose to create such a system. We'll just have to wait and see though!!
Great stuff here!

what you mentioned about the reputation and explaining a bit further the moderator thing, i believe those are things that should have been from day one. Now it's impossible to make that happen, they to change it completely cause given it's current state literally it can not be done. The thing is while i am on the same page as you regarding the content, cause there are a bunch of people that try to make quality posts and therefore to make the community and steemit even greater and there are the others who are basically greedy and try to earn easy money.
Even if they cast those aside ( which i hope so) still it can't be 100% fair. For instance you make a quality post about investing in ripple which contains 4-5 paragraphs and a person with high rep here or loyal followers posts a meme and you get to earn 5cent he get to earn 80$ (this is happening). Even if it seems 100% unfair and it is, the ones who upvoted the meme will reply ''we just like it'' '' you can't tell us what to like or vote'' see?
I hope you manage to create something better and fair, i would be the first one to join! :P

a good thing steemit has is that it's a multi platform. You can earn from blogging, you can earn passive income for delegating, it has way too fast transactions and you don't have to wait hours like in bitcoin, it can support many apps based on this platform ( and there are too many in such a short amount of time), the smart tokens are very promising and it can also be use just for advertising your crypto, company or whatever.
I think they are the first ones to achieve this. Most of the previous cryptos tried to focus only in one of those aspects. I haven't yet checked appics but it's in my to do list. Once again i hope you manage to do all this. You later on dream with the city reminds me of what Akon ( the singer) wants to do. The hard part will be to find those other people that have both connections and shared your vision ( cause probably most of the ones with connections only care about money)

This post is really on point. The effect of automation in coming days is inevitable and I see STEEM as God's blessings and solutions. We can all be happy while earning a living. It's not only the fact that in the future platforms like this will be of greater and better impact, and I assurely tell you that the blockchain is already a source of living to many people today. I appreciate your post @khaleelkazi
I see changes in this way. Automation and robotics making people less and less useful. Human is an unpredictable factor while the machines are obedient and programmed into a specific sequence. Every company want the best economic results , and people are replacing by new technologies. It is sad but it is true.
Now about Steemit . This platform is a little unnatural . Look at yt , on this platform is expressing a real thoughts . People write real opinion ,give dislikes and hating or loving content . Situation on steemit look in this way : Example ,, Super , Good content , Nice , Come to me and follow me , Upvoted - Please upvote me " I am very honest and I like when people express real opinion. Here objectivism does not exist... I think this is main defect on steemit. In the future people could be angry for this falsehood around them.
I believe many people will try to slowdown the process to keep their bu****it jobs. Changes in societies have always taken a long time.
Absolutely agree with you. Especially politicians, they're the masters of slowing progress to keep their "positions of power"
Steemit is cool but it had many problems. I expect it to be a social media site and not a creators content niche platform. I'll stick by it but something new can always replace it.
I agree, there are some problems on Steem that need to be addressed, but what keeps me truly optimistic is comparing this blockchain to every single other blockchain - this one is more scalable, has been around for longer than most other blockchains (in a functioning capacity), and actually has a working product(s) with Steemit.com as well as other apps on the blockchain like Dlive and the up-and-coming Steem Monsters game... There's so much more going on within the Steem community than on any other blockchain, that I'm sure of.
good job
As Steemit grows it will be more popular among social networks and many people around the world will have the opportunity to participate in this great community and generate income in a very comfortable way.
Love it man @khaleelkazi outstanding! https://steemit.com/mgsc/@alfayez/7-advanced-mobile-phone-photography-tips-and-traps
I love the concept of UBI, everytime people hear about it they spit out the same words: " you are just lazy and don't want to work", well, it really depends on the work, but if UBI existed i know perfectly what i would do, travel around with a backpack and seeing the world...
I see steem having a role in this , UBI would provide the most basic income for me to survive, but i would use steem to get that extra income of off my traveling and creativeness... machines won't mimic a human creativity for a very very long time, so, in a world where machines do most of our jobs the only ones left would be creative ones!! art, comedy, movies, etc...
I haven't checked your contet in a while, been busy last month with college stuff, hope everything is going great, i'm back to steemit, making this my summer hobby/job XD
A lot of future in here for a lifetime it will just be in the future what we shall all be thankful to in years to come. Steem is going places and I'm seeing the system doing a lot of upgrade in future because of the crowd it will absorbed soon. It will also build poets, artist, a better crypto world sooner or later.
Nice one. Thanks
