Steem is the Best "Landgrab Opportunity" I've Ever Seen and Here's Why - A Monday Morning Rant

in #steem7 years ago

As many of you know, I'm currently reading Gary Vaynerchuk's newest book, Crushing It! (actually I just finished the book today) and he often talks about "landgrab opportunities".

A landgrab opportunity refers to the early stages of a platform's existence. The time when the masses haven't started paying much attention to a platform. A perfect example would be snapchat in 2015 or Instagram several years ago, or Twitter when Ashton Kutcher became the first user to hit 1 million followers.

Anyways, I read the following snippet this morning and instantly thought of Steem and Steemit. In my opinion, Steem is the ultimate landgrab - the biggest opportunity to garner attention and influence (a.k.a. followers and Steem tokens) that I've ever seen.

“Don’t be the 2017 first-time homebuyer in Malibu; be goddamn Thomas Jefferson buying about eight hundred thousand square miles of Louisiana Territory for three cents an acre in 1803 dollars.” - Gary Vaynerchuk, "Crushing It!"

A lot of my friends and family have expressed a lot of interest in Steem after hearing about it from me. They also look at the price and ask if it's too high to get in (the price hovering around $3.5-$4). I always have the same answer - it may seem like a high price relative to the now, but what are you going to think when Steem hits $10 or $20 or $30 or $100...

I really think Steem has the potential to hit these prices and not just because I'm an optimist. I think steem has this potential because I can see the future that Steem can build. A future of unlimited possiblities with SMTs, communities, freedom of speech and actions, and much much more. For the uninitiated, I simply refer to Steem as Ethereum if it were on the most powerful social steroids in the world.

Before you get angry at the comparison, I know that there are a lot of obvious differences between Steem and Ethereum, but in my opinion, Steem is going to beat out Ethereum as an ecosystem to distribute tokens and create communities and individual governances. It's just a matter of time for Steem to hit the mainstream and be recognized for it's true potential. Just look around at your fellow Steemians who are building communities all over the world and dedicating themselves to promoting this platform and all its potential benefits for third-world countries.

The comparison to real estate is how I feel about owning EOS tokens. It's basically getting in on the Louisiana Purchase of blockchain 3.0

Wow, what great information, this makes me want to work even harder on Steem! Thanks for sharing! My favorite part about the Steem Community is the amazing people who support each other!

Completely agree with you steemit/steem is landgrab opportunity. We are at very early stage of it , more good things are yet to come like SMTs. In december 2017 i bought steem at 4 $ and within 5 days it falls to 2 $ . It creates FUD in me because i was new here. In the first week of 2018 steem rose upto 8 $ and that brings confidence in me. Now i have big trust on steem . I like everything about it because it is the only cryptocurrency with no negative point at all.

Great read as always @khaleelkazi, i also believe steem will rise in price, and that we will se the price go to 100$ soon, we are seeing a mass of new users /youtubers/streamers join steemit, i usually drop 200 bucks a month on a new crypto, i like to do my own research and choose one i believe in, i have many choices this month, EOS;OMG;NEO just to name a few, but i've been thinking, if i'm enjoying steemit so much why not just put those 200 bucks here... even though i can earn that trough good quality posts, i really don't know what to do xD

My favorite part until now is the steemstem community and the investing/crypto community, they always give great advices on where to invest or where not to invest, and steemstem because i love science, science is the future!

Thanks @teutonium! Yes, the influx of big youtubers, namely the Hodgetwins, has me really excited about the potential for large influencers to move over here spread the word about the amazing power of Steem as a platform for all media - video, audio, written, etc.

The thing that I love so much about buying steem power is that your earnings will scale with the amount of steem power you buy. So if you're posting/commenting often on Steemit, then increasing your SP will allow you to earn more from the same amount of efforts. That's just my opinion though. I do like to stay diversified in cryptos, but Steem is my largest holding.

I still have to check out the Steemstem community, I've heard a lot about it but haven't seen much on Steemit about it, do you have a link to a post or channel that I can get started with? I'd appreciate it! I also love the community on here in general. As the tagline goes: come for the rewards, stay for the community!

This is the SteemStem community discord https://discord.gg/UrCP5J4, we talk alot about science and everything science related, it's a great community, i found my home here and they have already helped me A LOT this last month

be goddamn Thomas Jefferson buying about eight hundred thousand square miles of Louisiana Territory.

What a great read!! Gary really got it.

Thank you @khaleelkazi for bringing us your book club. This is not a list of books to read but an interactive discussion of points the book brings to our life.

The original Steem white paper speaks specifically of community.

“proof of work enables a community to collectively fund the development of whatever it finds valuable.”

This place is not a place to get rich quick but a gold mine in community. I don't have even 1,000 steem but I give back what I earn now. A portion goes back to the contributors at the end of the week and a portion goes back into SP. If I make a cash payout it will be to help someone in my school or community with a specific need.

He really hit the nail on the head with that line, I love how he put it!

Thank you for reading and making it interactive @mineopoly!! If it weren't for intellectuals like yourself and our fellow Steemians, then we wouldn't have a discussion of such interesting topics! I really appreciate everything you share!

I absolutely agree, this community is something amazing and you are a perfect example of a "model Steemian" - one who gives without expectation of return and one who shares knowledge for the benefit of others!

All of crypto is in essence a land grab. In our mining operation, that is usually the go to sentiment in dips on the market. As in, doesn't matter what the coin is worth today (or what the stats are listing as the daily income) as we are not selling today. We are just grabbing up land so that we can be the landholders when everyone needs to buy land.

Definitely along the lines of STEEM-it as well as we are building our profiles and networks so that we are the dolphins and whales when the ecosystem pumps in the next million krill........except we are vegetarian whales that don't eat the 25ers! ;)

I agree, all crypto is most definitely a land grab - we are the early adopters and we will definitely see the most benefit for "planting our flag" in as much land as possible. I love how you connect it to your mining operation, that is a perfect example!

haha, exactly right!!

I love the fact that there is still so much growth for steem and the steemit community :) I've been hearing that more and more ico's are starting to run off the steem blockchain, only solidifying the the hype we all know is coming.

I've recently been outreaching more and more to the steemit community. I believe if we all do our small part in the community, we can all benefit, learn, grow off each other, and profit nicely ;)

I really do see steem becoming a top 10 crypto by the end of 2018, easily reaching $100+

I love it as well and I'm also doing my best to outreach and build my network on Steemit! We can most definitely benefit by helping each other and growing everyone's stake in this amazing platform and Steem will absolutely be a top 10 crypto. It's just a matter of time!

I agree. It's about everyone doing their part to build a platform full of great content!

Steem is indeed a landgrab opportunity . It's unfortunate that I got to learn about steem and steemit just December last year but despite that, I have resolved to maximise every little opportunity I have on this platform.

I see the potentials steem has. The First of its kind to reward talents . Steem is gonna boom in few years time and anyone left out will definitely chew his fingers .

Hey @sistem! You're still super early to the party, so don't worry! Just keep posting and commenting and building this community and you'll reap the huge benefits of this amazing platform! Rewarding talent is such an amazing feature and really brings so many opportunities to people of all skills all over the world!

The opportunities here which comes from the diversity of its community members. My life has changed a lot since I discovered Steemit. It brings in lots of opportunities and with the extended platforms - Dtube, Zappl, Dsound, Steepshot etc, it means there's something for everyone no matter what you are good at.

I agree, it's all about the community. My life has radically changed since joining Steemit as well. You also put that very well - there's something for everyone no matter what your talent is!

I think there is a lot of overlap between Steem and Ether. I will put it less eloquently than Dan Latimer did in his paper about Ether....Steem doesn't suck! The blockchain itself is technically far superior and years ahead of the Ethereum platform.

What do I like about Steem the most? It is the community and endless possibilities!

I agree completely! The Steem blockchain is durable, scalable and efficient. It's just a matter of time before people catch on!!! I love those 2 things as well and I look forward to the future when Steem realizes its potential!
