Copy of my email to CoinDesk about taking a look at Steem

in #steem7 years ago

After reading a recent article on CoinDesk hyping Ethereum as the next in line to don the "king of crypto" crown, it got me thinking...

I thought to myself, why couldn't steem do that?

A lot of the same reasons the author used to state why Ethereum was destined to overtake Bitcoin were also applicable to Steem.

Then, when I saw this at the bottom of the article, I knew what had to be done:

"Think a different blockchain will dominate? CoinDesk is accepting submissions for its 2017 in Review series. Email [email protected] to tell us your thoughts on the year ahead."

https://www.coindesk.com/2017-bitcoins-year-2018-will-ethereums/

After seeing that I drafted this little email up and shot it over to CoinDesk:

From: @jrcornel
To: [email protected]

"After reading a recent article about Ethereum and how it will replace Bitcoin as the most popular, and possibly most valuable coin going forward, it got me thinking about another coin.

Steem.

The Steem blockchain powers the Steemit.com website and is set to launch Smart Media Tokens (SMTs) in early 2018.

Which, if you are not familiar will allow communities, companies, groups, etc etc to all create their own tokens in order to monetize content or basically whatever they want. Similar to what Ethereum has done with their ERC20 coins for people launching ICOs. Except these SMTs will be backed with Steem tokens, which are easily trade-able and have real market value.

More about SMTs can be read here: https://smt.steem.io/smt-whitepaper.pdf

Aside from that, the Steem blockchain is fast.

One of the fastest in existence in fact.

With 3 second blocks and no fees for transfers, it seems like the perfect chain to scale.

Not to mention that it already does some of the most transactions per day by any blockchain. Just recently it handled over 1 million transactions in a single 24 hour period, which was more than both Bitcoin and Ethereum.

https://steemit.com/record/@steemitblog/steem-blockchain-breaks-1-000-000-transactions

In fact, there have even been days in the past where Steem did more transactions than both Bitcoin and Ethereum, combined. And it did this without breaking a sweat, while Bitcoin and Ethereum are both struggling to handle this latest surge in network usage.

Given all of this information, I am shocked that the steem blockchain is not getting more recognition among investors and developers as the place to be and build for 2018.

Time to shine a light on these guys, what do you think?"

Most likely the email won't amount to much, but then again, maybe it will.

Who knows.

Either way I am looking forward to 2018 being a very strong year for steem.

Here's to hoping!

Thank you for posting @jrcornel

Appreciate you writing CoinDesk on Steemit's behalf....very kind of you.

Let's hope it is effective. Well done.

This is writtien from bleujay's art gallery account.

Wishing you and yours a Happy New Year. Cheers.

Thank you for the kind words, not sure it will do much, but better than not doing it I would assume. ;)

2018 год станет годом Стима! :)

I look forward to 2018 and steemit. It is evolving and we are all benefiting for it. Thanks for your post!

Steem is by far my most favored crypto currency at the moment - and it is also fun and educational to use!

I would prefer steem to stay low (which it is for sure at the moment) so that I have some more time to buy some more ;-)

It's great to see the community so fervent in getting Steemit into the spotlight it deserves.

I didn't know:

The Steem blockchain powers the Steemit.com website and is set to launch Smart Media Tokens (SMTs) in early 2018.

That is incredibly promising. Steemit can only benefit from more use cases.

Great article @jrcornel. Thank you for your hard work and drive as we continue to strive to bring Steemit to everyone in 2018 and beyond.

Yea SMTs are supposed to be a big value driver for steem going forward. They are a big reason I am optimistic for the new year and steem.

Wow great read ur post @jrcornel

Might I suggest the following: that instead of betting on a 'maybe, hopefully' on Coindesk, may I draw your attention to a campaign I started to get STEEM listed on Binance?

Binance actually has a 'Community coin of the month' vote, and if we submit an application before the 31st, STEEM will appear among the choices which we can vote for.

Our Steemit community is big enough that we will be able to dominate any voting process on Binance. This is one exchange-listing we can actually get if only some people at the top, maybe yourself, will get us past the hurdle of submitting an application.

Binance is the most popular exchange nowadays, but it's also an Asian exchange, and getting STEEM listed on Asian markets is significant in itself! It will be better marketing than any article.

Please have a look at my post and if you are in contact with anybody who can make this a reality, please pass this information on to them or direct them to my post? We have up until the 31st to submit an application, or we miss out (again).

Good info. I am looking into it. Though one small correction, this email was to coindesk, not coinbase. Though getting steem on coinbase would be the ultimate. ;)

Yes, I misread it.. sorry about that!
Corrected it in the comment I made..

Still applies though.. we just need some heavy hitters like you to reach out to the people in charge of doing stuff like submitting the application. STEEM on Binance would be the best thing ever! So thanks for looking into it!

Any idea what their requirements are for getting a coin listed?

Only that a core developer, or somebody else involved with the project submits an application. All the information, including links can be found here.

Once the application is done, then we all need to vote on it. Which means a solid week of campaigning here on Steemit to remind everybody to go vote.. which should be totally do-able, and in fact highly profitable for some of you top Steemians to run a daily post like that! ;)

We all win, because the price of STEEM goes up, and more people can join the ecosystem.

I love it. May the blockchain that can directly reward creators and topple facebook win all the spoils!
