in #steem4 days ago

On August 16 of each year in Paraguay, Children's Day is celebrated, whether you believe it or not it is in commemoration of a war.

In 1869 in the war of the triple alliance in the battle of Acosta ñu, the Paraguayan people had been completely decimated and due to the lack of men for the war, Marshal Francisco Solano López recruited for the war children between 10 and 14 years old, these would be part of the army that would be facing battle. These children, numbering approximately 3,500, were dressed as adults and they even drew mustaches so that their appearance would be like men of war. Elders and women also joined the troops, all of this along with 600 soldiers who were professionals. All of these from the Paraguayan army faced the Brazilian troops that totaled 20,000 men.

This is a brief review of the history behind the commemoration of Children's Day every August 16 here in Paraguay, Acosta wildebeest was the place where said battle would have been fought.
