EXCLUSIVE: Q&A with OnewhoMayAscend
Q&A with OnewhoMayAscend
One of my favorite parts of what I do is finding hip-hop artists who have a different way of thinking than most other hip-hop artists. Apologies for the redundancy. Anyways, OnewhoMayAscend (OMA) is one of the most original hip-hop artists out there today. It doesn't take someone with perfect pitch to see that this man has developed his sound from the ground up.
Uniqueness is a trait that often flies under the radar. Even worse, uniqueness often times just does not have a place in this world. That is why OMA is an artist to have on your radar.
Originality aside, OMA is also a fantastic lyricist and his music is equal in caliber. The man makes slappers, but he can slow it down and spit some real shit, any time he wants. Also, his music videos are very good. They provide a very close look inside the mind of OMA. Which is awesome because we rarely get to see a visual of exactly what the artist thinks. Throw all of this together and you have one stellar artist with a very bright future.
OMA was kind enough to agree to a Q&A, check it out!
Q. Your sound is very unique, it's great, but it's different from most of the rappers out there. How did you find your sound?
OMA - Well for starters, I've found my sound by a lot of trial, error, and experimentation... listening to my favorite artists over and over, analyzing what distinguished them from the rest, and identifying which of those qualities worked best for me. However, with that said, I don't believe that I have fully realized my sound, nor do I know whether or not I ever will, as it will continue to evolve as I do, a process of continuous growth...

Q. How's the hip-hop scene in Dallas?
OMA - Although I've recently relocated to Brooklyn, the hip-hop scene is Dallas is dope af, my only wish is that there was more unity, and cohesion within the community.
--
Q. What has been one of the most challenging times for you as an artist?
OMA - The life as an up and coming artist is full of day to day challenges, but probably the most relevant, reoccurring challenge is finding a life/work balance not only between maintaining a stable career to sustain my lifestyle from creating music, but also from project to project, marketing etc... especially since creativity has no limits, time frames or constraints, it can be inconvenient at times, to say the least.
--
Q. What influences you as an artist?
OMA - Life influences my artistry, simply put, that, and my previous personal experiences have assisted in cultivating a unique experience and perspective on life, not unlike anybody else.
--
Q. What does hip-hop mean to you?
OMA - What does hip hop mean to me? Haha...more like what it doesn't mean to me...to me hip-hop, like music itself, is all-encompassing...from the expression of life, until death, and everything in between...everything conceivable, imaginary, or otherwise... to me, that question is comparable to asking who/what is God.
--
Q. Finally, is there anything that YOU want people to know about you?
OMA - I want the people to know that I myself am unimportant; I am but a vessel, I am but a product of your own doing.
I would like to personally thank OMA for taking the time to answer my questions. It is much appreciated.

watched his Wrath of the Damned video. Not really my cup of.. Blood.. But he's got a unique twist to the mumble and trap genre that does stand out. I'll prolly need to check a few more of his tracks, but I'm guessing they're all gonna be in the same vein of sound/style. Kudos on the interview though.. i saw him pop up on my twitter and it lead me back to steemit and here! just gave you a follow as well.. got some new initiatives bubbling up! holla
Yea man, the blood is a little much for me too. It is his style though and he does a good job of expressing himself so good for him.
