Steem making content behind paywalls reachable by just upvoting!
Say goodbye to hassling with credit cards.Unlock content by just upvoting! An enjoyable way to interact with paywalls.
Steemsongs
Upon reading about Steemsongs, a service being developed by @thisisbenbrick, I noticed this following bit in his recent post:
"We plan to have "pay with upvote" options that will also allow you to only select users with a certain amount of SP. This might mean that some bigger users are able to get music for free, whilst giving the creator much more than they'd normally receive. Of course you can chose SBD or Steem."
And this is was my reply:
"@thisisbenbrick paying via upvotes is a huge thing for everyone on Steem right now. Imagine how the demand for SP will increase if this technology becomes widely adapted!
Few things came to mind. First, you should have minimum required upvote amount set. This means whales could pay more if they wish or just go for the minimum required. Second, this feature should be available to almost everyone! Those with smaller wallets could vote until minimum is reached and only then would they get the content.
Let me know what you think."
Excitement intensifies
This is a piece of technology that done well could introduce so many new ways to interact with upvotes. New sites could pop up that use only this method of distributing their content to readers or just have special content behind it. It would be up to owners of these sites on how to use it - Maybe they'd like their content to be available for users with single 10 cent upvotes or upwards or even the smaller holders could upvote many times. I'd like to see as many options as possible as they all could be used in different and various ways.
The demand for SP could go through the roof with wide adoption
Wow! Mind blown!
I guess this could be used to crowdfund as well? Which means it could help individuals, charities, businesses that need funding and more!
Yes, imagine Steemit but switch every current post with kickstarter project. In the best scenario there will be a Kickstarter site built just using Steem technology.
It could work just the same, but instead of using your credit card, you will be using votes or transferring SBD and Steem. The different funding tiers and rewards could be kept just the same.
Now you might think, what if the funding level isn't reached? Well in Steem every post has a 7 day payout window so if the target isn't reached before that, users with this option enabled via settings will automatically have their vote cancelled. This should reward back your voting power used.
actually, what you just described is sort of what EOS wants to do for distributed apps, which would also potentially include music apps and such, which could also interface with the STEEM blockchain...

Thank you for providing this link. I've only seen one representation so far of EOS and it was quite amazing, almost too good to be true! Will look in to this.
I think quite a few people think that, until they realize it's Dan Larimer's new project (Dan, who also built STEEMIT), and if anyone's got a shot at pulling it off, it'd be him. Seems he's sort of becoming the "Elon Musk" of the blockchain world. lol
I've noticed that the more time I spend reading about his work, the more I'm impressed. That is a good sign. He isn't afraid to do things differently and tinker so I applaud him for that. EOS will bring crypto to whole new level if it delivers and if that happens, for sure he will be thought as one of the Elon Musk type people operating in this space.
I love it! So, Steemsongs will be the first to do it? Or are there any other working examples out there?
Currently Steemsongs is the first service planning to do this that I'm aware of.
But will probably be one of many. Every content provider, from physical content to digital and from small to big could use this service instead of having their users submit credit cards.
Pay with upvote is an awesome idea!
It certainly is and I'm quite excited for it. It's a match made in heaven as we already have many talented artists who need to sell their content. This way they could setup their own websites but still use Steem.
Haha, random thought that occurred to me for artists just now.
"On Steemit we pay with upvotes to view your art, plus you get to keep it."
Its literally like having your own art exhibition on your own page.
Yep, there are so many possibilities with this technology. People come up with new ideas every passing moment. Who knows what this space will look like in 5 years.
