Announcing The STEEM Chronicles - Online and Offline Magazine
Conception
There are many curation projects on steemit, but a few of us thought the community could use an offline curation project. You may ask “What would be the point of offline curation?”. Many steem articles contain valuable content that’s both educational and entertaining. Their monetary value might only be cut off at seven days, yet the content is timeless. We never know when the posts we create will help people in another part of the world solving their day to day problem, answer their curiosity about life, spark some inspiration or creativity, or strike a chord with someone, letting them know they are not alone.
Mission
Our main goal for publishing a steemit magazine is twofold. Firstly, we would like to make sure that incredible content reaches the eyes of new readers even when it has passed its payout date. Secondly, we would like to help spread the word about steemit and show more people what the community has to offer, bringing in new users who are interested not only on the monetary aspect of steem but also in quality content.
There are other purposes that a steemit magazine could serve as well. Although technology is growing rapidly, there are still places in the world which don’t have access to the internet. As these places primarily rely on books for their education and understanding of the world. A steem magazine could provide them with another perspective and allow them to see outside of their communities and gain a better understanding of the world outside. An alternative to what they may find in popular publications and Hollywood films as most of the articles were written by for regular people, by regular people, from all over the world.
In addition, with books about self-help, entrepreneurship, and investment selling so well, it’s clear that many people are searching for financial freedom. A magazine could empower the promoters to bring more efficiently these people straight to Steem, which will serve as a medium to introduce these people to blockchain technology and help them reach their goals.
For the content creators, this publication will mean that their works will be read by people all over the world and will have timeless value. There is great satisfaction in the opportunity to motivate someone in different part of the world.
Organization and Distribution
We will organize posts based on nominations and our discretion and after formatting it into a printable document, share it with the community. From there we hope that community members will help us to print it and leave it in places where people will see it, including but not limited to cafes, community spaces, offices, art studios, waiting lounges, co-working spaces, meetups (including steemit meetups for distribution among community members) Internet cafes, etc. We think this will work just as good, if not better than posters and business cards advertising Steem.
Team
This project was started by @GuyFawkes4-20, @macchiata, and @whatamIdoing. The three of us have known each other since our early days on steem about half a year ago and have built a strong connection on the Be Awesome discord channel. We hope that we can help more people benefit from this community and connect with other like-minded people in the same way that we have.
@GuyFawkes4-20
Anarchist fighting against all the bullshit of this world through straightforward, raw and full of honesty posts. Curator for OCD, trying to support undervalued Steemians, now both online and offline. Cryptopreneur and a firm believer that blockchain will take over the world.
@macchiata
She's a coffee lover, metaphorically living in a coffee shop that writes about anything that comes to her mind and is very passionate about helping people achieve their dreams.
@whatamIdoing
Is a symbiotic pineapple from outer space. He writes "political self-help", fiction, language learning material and blog posts and currently hosts the Deadpost Initiative which finds readers and rewards for undervalued expired posts. He's extremely motivated to build a strong community and help spread the wealth distribution at Steemit.

A little teaser, a preview of how the magazine layout may look like, everything is subject to change because we are growing fast, we will take submissions in the future but more on that later.
I look to this as a solid opportunity for steemit, to have a physical footprint. I don't know how logistics would work, but I wish you luck -- the opportunity to consistently share content with a zine is a huge opportunity for exposure!
Thank you, we hope this project will take off on the whole blockchain. :)
victorious for steemit! easy work with lucrative income
are you the guy from moymoy palaboy?
I think you're totally right about the potential efficacy of this as Steemit advertising, as well as all the other positives you list. Awesome idea! Do you need any help..?
I'm glad you like our idea. We will need help in the future, we'll open ourselves up to submissions but more on that sometime this next week, I think.
Nice. Steemit deserves to spread its legs offline, in all directions, like an octopus :)
Looking forward to seeing the first issue of the magazine.
I love your idea! We can work together and support each other! We will be in touch.
Alright, you've got my interest. My only question is: how will you deal with copyright? Will you use only with permission from the authors, or does publishing to a block chain leave the content as open source?
Or am I missing something?
Right. I think the content is still copyright material. To print it and distribute it, they will need the author's permission. What incentive will there be for authors to give their permission?
We will ask for permission from the authors. In return, they will appear in the magazine and get votes from the crew but that's pretty much all since probably all the rewards we will get will go towards printing. The magazine will be free for anyone to read and print. :)
Authors can choose to use the Creative Commons Copyright. Do you know about them? They are a group of Stanford (I think) lawyers who wrote up all the legal boilerplate to protect artist rights. Artists (authors) can choose provisions that suit them. eg. attribution required, no changes allowed, free for non-commercial use, etc. These provisions are indicated by short titles that are backed up (if necessary) by all the pages of legalese. The Creative Commons copyright is widely used and respected. I've published ten books under the CCC.
Right, and then anyone can cut portions of the magazine then attribute it to themselves and then resell it for profit. I would think twice before agreeing to give away all my author's rights to the magazine you are planning. I'm not sure if you've looked into it seriously but I do think you should keep copyrights for your magazine. The rights you are requesting to publish author's work should be reserved for your magazine publication only, in my non-lawyer opinion.
We will obviously ask for the author's permission from the author. More detail about this will come.
Ohhh this is so cool! Congrats! Hope I get my hands on one :D
They will be free for anyone to download and print themselves.
Ok, I am up to this, what is a plan?
Such a good idea. Always fun to see real materialize from digital. What cities are you starting distro?
Right now, only Romania, Indonesia, and Hong Kong for sure since the team lives there, but anyone will be free to print and distribute them however they like, anywhere they like.
It's pretty intetesting idea and a lot of work for you guys. I'm curious to see the end result.
I'm curious to see how the everything will look like too, I hope great. :)
