Lets talk Steemit #2 | Steemit in the mainstream?

in #steem7 years ago

One of the main reasons I don't see steemit becoming a main stream website anytime soon is because of how complex it is, if you are to go through steemit the vast majority of content creators are people who already have some idea about crypto or have worked in computing before.

The reason I think this occurs is because of the steps needed to withdraw money form steemit, getting SBD into your bank account takes a number of conversion steps that most people in the world don't yet understand or think they could understand.

In my opinion there are two things that will bring steemit into the mainstream, the main factor I see is crypto currency in general becoming popularized because as people come to understand that there is more out there than bitcoin and that other coins are trying to revolutionize the way we interact. Though I don't see this happening for a number of years, as people understanding that online currencies aren't a scam will take time, research along with mainstream news outlets starting to hire correspondents who know the ins and outs of blockchains and crypto.

Option two is Steemit themselves bringing out a system where people can change SBD into $, £ or $ and then transfer it into their bank without having to use external sites. The problem is that is no easy task to add such a complex system to steemit and would take a lot of time and energy to add such a system.

Do we want to be mainstream?

Another question is do the creators and the users want steemit to become mainstream because there is the obvious benefits, with more people comes more money and more recognition for every body involved although it could cause more harm than good.

If the site was to quickly gain massive popularity the whole ecosystem of the site could change and make many of the current members leave but it's just like any other change it will come with some good some bad and have an adjustment period attached.

What do you guys think steemit needs to do so that the site can become part of the mainstream or do you think doing so would only harm the site? Please leave a comment, vote and follow for more.

I would have thought it would help, and everyone on it now telling friends will have a massive ripple effect.

I really started in crypto when I got on Steemit, I tried bitcoin one time but as far as figuring some things out it wasn't super hard for me. Then I guess some people who are a bit busy already would have it hard to find time.

Same hear, as I started on steemit I started looking into crypto. Once you start looking into things you find that it is pretty easy setting up accounts and using coins but I think a lot of people find the whole crypto world intimidating as from the outside it seems quite complex, that's why I think it will take time for people to adapt.

Yeah i tried to put some people on Steenit they never got on
