What is Sweatcoin? Does it really pay you to walk? Is it worth it?

Sweatcoin is an app (both on android and ios) that gives rewards to the user in the form of 1 Sweatcoin for every 1000 steps. The default setting allows the user to register up to five thousand steps per day. Sweatcoins ''plans'' are available to buy and allow to register up to twenty thousand steps per day. These ''plans'' are payed with Sweatcoin and do not cost very much. Each account is tied to an email and phone number and the gps must be on to count and register the steps.

The Sweatcoin itself is currently not a cryptocurrency. The developers have announced their intention to move the whole project on a blockchain in the future.

So how is Sweatcoin used? Sweatcoins are produced by walking. There is also the option to see an ad each day and collect one to four Sweatcoins per day. Inviting friends gives five Sweatcoins per person invited, more on that below. Purchases of rewards are made in app.

A day's walk gives three months of free music!

Smaller rewards cost usually between ten and eight hundred Sweatcoins. The store updates each day with new offers. It is also country specific, meaning that depending on where you live, you'll get different offers. Here are a few examples of rewards available in the app the last few months (registered with a Norwegian phone number).

  • Tidal and Scribd 3 months subscription (usually 10 coins)
  • 50% discount on designer yoga clothes
  • Protein shakes
  • Jewelry and fashion items (those go for around 800 coins)
  • Tea and tea bottles

Lately there has been a lot of 50% discount offers. This is excellent if it is about something you were planning to buy anyway. Physical items offered as rewards are usually sports related and from new companies. Some items have a 'new tech' - futuristic vibe.

What everybody is talking about of course is the big items given as rewards. These items cost between seven and twenty thousand Sweatcoin. Prizes include iphones, Klm flyer miles worth one thousand dollars, trips, luxury items etc.
Although users are able to send and receive Sweatcoin from friends the big prizes have to be bought with Sweatcoin earned by yourself (walking+invites).

Each friend you invite gives five Sweatcoin. In addition, if one invites fifty persons, then it is possible to gain access to the Sweatcoin Influencer lever. There among other thing Sweatcoins can be allegedly exchanged for cash via paypal.

Help me reach the Sweatcoin Influencer level by registering to the Sweatcoin app using my refferal:
