RE: Steem - Google Trends showing increasing Searches for Steemit.com

in #steem5 years ago

One of the best things about your point is the mega power the steemit.com domain holds. It is a page rank 8 which is incredible. That means that a link back from steemit.com to another website is very valuable to that website. It is an SEO goldmine and it is important that steemit.com remains the main site for steemit and doesn't go away.

How does steemit (and steem) better monetize and take advantage of this fact?

well it is tricky. First they need to give out "do follow" backlinks. That means the power of steem's domain travels along the link back to the other website. That "do follow" tag used to kick in when a post reached over $20 in earnings. I'm not sure if that value is still the case. But a do follow link back from steemit.com will help the receiving site rise in the search engine rankings. But if they start doing it for all the advertisers and anyone who wants one, the power of that link will be diluted and google will see it as a ranking scam and kill the value. The solution is an seo club or community of hiqh value steemians that agree to vote certain posts over $20 or whatever amount now triggers that tag. Ideally it would be important for businesses. If you have a pizza place and did a post about it getting 1 do follow link from steemit would help you. Or if you are trying to rank your site for a certain keyword getting 1 link back from steemit would be great. For example, I have a company that manufactures portable ice skating rinks. If I wrote a post about it and I received a do follow link back from steemit it would help my business. It could be done with a voting bot but people vote it down and hate bots. Maybe a closed group of whales who care about steem would be willing to cast a few votes on preselected content for links. At least that is my thought on the subject.
