STEEM Newcomer Disadvantage Discourages STEEM Adoption
I've been hanging around this community for a little while as a lurker to see what it was about - for some reason Steem didn't send the verification code to my phone the first time I tried to sign up so I just lurked.
After awhile I decided to try again - and I was able to get verified and waited the crazy amount of time for my account to become active before I could start participating. - all good though. Patience I guess is a virtue - however it shouldn't be expected on the internet where everything is expected to be instantaneous.
My last post lived on the front page of new stories for less than a minute - since I didn't include some sexy chick photo in my post it's most probable that not many people even noticed the post existed.
When new people come to this place they are at a great disadvantage - they have no power and no way other than buying STEEM to get more power - so their posts will most likely never be seen.
I won't buy buy STEEM just yet because I don't see how this medium is going to attract new users and hold onto them when they find themselves voiceless and buried faster than the time it takes to write up an article. The Google search that STEEM is using doesn't even keep search results within the realm of Steem contributors and pulls results from the open web.
Maybe someone can explain the advantages of being here - because I have yet to see any.
@cactii, I appreciate your concerns, and I have been/continue to be in the same place you are talking about.
I have devoted a lot of time and effort and at times I feel like I have not making much progress. That is both good and bad. If it were super easy then everyone would run to Steemit and the spam content would increase even more.
My recommendation is to comment a lot of other people's content and then after you have developed more of a following then start creating your original content.
That is what I would do if I could do everything over again. I have seen several accounts that have never posted a single original story, but have followers because of how much they interact with other people through comments. Sorry that I can not remember one of the top of my head.
I did buy Steempower to get a post. I also was blessed with someone recommended one of my pos to be on @curie. That also accelerated by Steemit journey.
Keep pressing on!
You should view Steemit as an alternative social media platform, that gives you the potential to earn real rewards. There is no guarantee of making money.
Think what Facebook gives you for your likes and sharing..NOTHING (well they do give you lots of ads), now think about Twitter does your activity on there offer you a possibility of any real rewards...no, again more ads and lots of money is made by both of them off your content posting and sharing others content.
Along comes Steemit a totally new type of social media platform that does offer you a possiblity of real rewards.
Which one will you decide to interact with most (for me it's Steemit without any doubt), when you get involved you get rewards...maybe not much at first but even 0.050SBD and 0.050 STEEM after 7 days is MORE THAN Facebook and Twitter will pay you.
Don't give up, comment on posts and create good posts....don't spam, don't plagiarize, always reference other sources.
You got an upvote (not that I agree with your points, just to be nice) & resteem (because I want more to see this and comment so you can reply to comments and earn a little to see it works).
Steem on Beyond the moon, we will watch it fly further than that. Good luck to us all.
I never thought of it in that context - thanks for the fresh view on it!

I thought.. this promising young coder might develop really valuable experience, motivation and contacts from creating a bot. and here it is on your post doing exactly what it set out to do ! help
I totally agree. The platform is at best a microcasm of the problems with modern society and at worst a well designed pump and dump.
