RE: Sunday Steem Curation

in #steem5 years ago (edited)

My friend Dave has been running Israellycool, one of the leading independent blogs on Israel since the earliest days of blogging. He's on Steem as @israellycoolblog.

Israellycool is a leading pro-Israel website inaugurated in March 2003. In these ~16 years, it has grown to be perhaps the largest English-language website focused on Israel in the world, with resources, commentary and calls for action, and has developed a reputation for its scoops, edgy humor, and scrupulous fact-checking.

A few weeks ago, after a 7 year battle with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer (something astonishing BTW), his wife passed away. Shortly before that Dave quit his 18 year tech job to work on his blog full time. He's converting to a non-profit and hoping to raise the funds needed to make his passion pay the bills for him and his 5 kids. I encouraged him onto the Steem chain and using @steempress's great plugin, all his posts are now mirrored to Steem. They're not getting much attention, but he consistently puts up interesting news about Israel and every now and then he comprehensively scoops mainstream (who usually then copy his posts without attribution).

A few posts from last week.

Part of a series where Dave compares old New York Times coverage of Israel to their modern (overwhelmingly negative) coverage - Know Your History: Jerusalem Sanitation (NY Times Nov 10, 1919)

He's also steadily republishing some of the inspiring writings of his late wife, a truly remarkable woman - The Writings of Ahava Emunah Lange: Love & Faith
