Things you Should Know about The Bahamas

1. The name is actually "The Bahamas" not "Bahamas", it is plural lol
2. Today is our independence-July 10th 1973
3. We are an archipelago. An archipelago is a country made up of many islands like Hawaii or Japan. The Bahamas stretches over 100,00 miles.
4. We are the richest independent country in The Caribbean.
5. Our population is small, but growing and currently sits just below 400,000.
6. English is our official language, although it may not sound that way all the time.
7. We have the 3rd largest barrier reef in The World, behind Australia and The Philipines.
8. Our history is greatly interwoven into the history of America for good and ill. We played integral parts in the American revolutionary and Civil war, serving as an outpost.
9. We were a Pirate's republic and involved in rum running and other illegal trades later on in our history.
10. We are a Christian nation, with the majority of Bahamians claiminig Christianity.
