RE: Steem Community is not ready for microblogging creators
Microblogging is the inevitable destiny of the Steem blockchain. People are just not attentive enough these days to sit through long posts. I prefer creating longer posts to be honest, since I talk a lot haha, but I understand others are different and just want to use the blockchain like they do on social media.
Having said that, I think there's a difference in quality between a single photo or meme and a well researched article or a well put together video. I also believe that effort should be rewarded, so it would be sad to see people give up on high quality content in favour of selfies.
I think microbloggers should also be happy with micro upvotes :)
I hear what you said about whales.. but also, it's their money and they can do with it as they please I guess :)
But You know that not all of us have the same talents. And not everyone can write. I know that I can't. It was something that I have never enjoyed.
And You as a photographer and also someone that create a lot of content daily know pretty damn well that even sometimes to come up with one photo or even one meme or funny quote is not as simple as You said... Also when You do microblogging You know that it is a nonstop process. It is not that I go to my PC or mobile once a day. Take a selfie and upload it on the internet. There is a whole process behind it and I have to repeat it many times a day. Every single day.
And how are we going to achieve bigger audiences when all the long format big websites on the internet are dying. And blogging is not as popular as it was 5 years ago if the community keep marginalizing this type of content in here.
When it comes to the whales... of course I dont want to say what they have to like or not. All that I want is for them to not try and make seem like microblogging creators are not worth it but in the end they are doing microblogging and upvoting themselves.
Yes, I know :) It can take days, even weeks to produce one single good photo. Especially portraits of people - all the work that goes on before and and the lighting, makeup, etc.. then there's all the post-processing. I get that.. I think those kinds of posts deserve a good reward as they are just as high quality, as a well researched article (maybe even higher quality)
What I'm talking about is, say, if I just take a quick selfie of myself on my iPhone and just post that. If it gets a higher reward than someone who spent weeks creating an article, then it's a little sad. And that happens A LOT on here actually :)
I think this is a great use case for SMTs. See if SteepShot had its own tokens, then we know that all Steepshot posts are microblogging, then it would feel more like Instagram... as a microblogging platform - then we wouldn't have this issue.
I only brought this to light because I think the majority of the community in here it is not open at all to the idea of accepting and supporting microblogging in the Steem blockchain and that is a downfall.
The other "shitty" Blockchains that have some functional social media dapps are betting on that approach and I think it is the way to actually get more users.
And here we are with a totally functional Blockchain. A bunch of amazing developers. But in a mindset that doesn't allow that expansion to happen 🤔
