⏸️ #proposal-89: [Paused] Steemit - The Social Media Blockchain for Photographers
As of today, #proposal89 is no longer approved for funding.
This update shares the improvements that I've been working on since my last update.
At the time of writing, these changes haven't been deployed to steemitdev but hopefully at the time of reading, they will have been.
Testing
As expected, I've been testing the changes that I've made on steemitdev which by and large, have been successful. Testing the 'tags' implementation was definitely onerous and fortunately, things are working as expected. All of the other bug fixes also passed testing.
Ukrainian Language
Thanks to @o1eh and the Ukrainian community for testing this update. I have implemented the changes highlighted in this comment so please retest this.
The Social Media Blockchain for Photographers
In the previous implementation of images, they would open in a new tab. Whilst this is an improvement of what's currently available, it didn't feel as graceful as I would have liked and I really felt this whilst testing.
So instead of images opening in a new browser tab, they will use the existing overlay that you'll see when logging in (and other actions).
You'll also notice that above the image, I have implemented zooming features - zoom in, zoom out and reset zoom.
To support this, once you're zoomed in on both desktop and mobile devices, you can drag the image within the window to see different parts of it.
To me, this feels like a far more elegant solution.
I was in the process of implementing a "scale percentage view", as well as the ability to zoom in and out using the mouse wheel but since this current implementation is stable and I don't know when I'll next have time to work on this, it seems sensible to get this live in its current form.
Please take a look once steemitdev's been updated and let me know what you think. And if you haven't done so already...

This is impossible!
Would you please name the "responsible parties". Aldo those who have obviously withdrawn their vote. That would be very important, because then I could ask those "responsible": WHY???
It was one person - @justyy. Currently Steem's No. 1 ranked witness.
He moved his vote from my proposal to the old Return Proposal. A conscious decision to remove the funding from this project.
He doesn't think it's worth the money.
It is what it is. Nothing I can do about it.
A slap in the face of a load of users who still believe...
Unfortunately, I don't understand what you mean by ‘visible pictures’.
I understand the issue and have shared it on the witness channel. @steemchiller (sorry for the mention but perhaps you can echo what I’m saying) has experienced the same problem in the past but it needs somebody from the Steemit Team to do something with a server.
С интересом слежу за развитием событий.
I have my fingers crossed for you.
I've shared this post on the Witness Channel for you again.
Message from somebody who can fix it...
If you use Google Chrome, could you please "capture the response headers" for an image?
In Google Chrome, you can access these by pressing F12 and it will look something like this:
But of course, you can't see the image I've shared.
Hang on...
If you click on the link below, it should open an image:

Я не программист, не могу найти похожий экран.
Do you know of another Russian user who might be able to do this?
Bitter!
Thanks, my friend, you've done a great job. I hope they'll support your proposal again soon.
Hello again,
I've just noticed that you're still supporting the old Return Proposal. I'm trying to get votes moved from the old Return Proposal and to the New Return Proposal.
The easiest way to do this is through Steemworld:
https://steemworld.org/proposals
So that votes look like mine currently do (with only the new return proposal supported):
This would also help to support my proposal to modernise Steemit's interface as the barrier for approval would be lower.
Please drop me a line if you have any questions.
Thank you in advance for your help and support 🙏
Congratulations

Hello,
When I open it, only the old proposal appears; I couldn't find the new one.
The new one is directly underneath the Return Proposal:
If you could remove your vote from the "Return Proposal" and add it to the "New Return Proposal", that would be perfect (so that it looks like my screenshot).
Thank you 👍
Ok, I removed the support for the old one, but I definitely can't find the new one.

It's the 4th one down on your screenshot. My proposal is the 2nd one down (which it doesn't look like you're supporting any more), the old proposal is the 3rd on down, which you're currently supporting and the new one is the 4th one down.
So currently your screenshot has:
Voted: Steemit Wallet
Not Voted: My proposal
Voted: Old Return Proposal
Not Voted: New Return Proposal
No Voted: Reduced Inflation Proposal.
For context, mine looks like this:
So please vote on mine again :-)
Please remove your vote from the one by gtg
Please vote on the one by dao.team.
I think I got it, I was confused because your username doesn't appear as the author.

Why not you guys just share a direct link to proposal?
https://www.steempro.com/proposals/89
Cool - it looks like you’re voting on the New Return proposal now.
It looks like you’ve removed you vote from my proposal and are still voting on the old proposal by gtg. It’s possible that my screen hasn’t updated although it did for the new return proposal.
Sorry, I know it’s confusing!
Thanks @joslud.
Si, definitivamente es confuso.
No entiendo, ¿vote o no por tu nueva propuesta?
Allí solo puedo ver que aparece una propuesta con tu usuario.
Yes, it's definitely confusing.
I don't understand. Should I vote for your new proposal or not?
There, I can only see one proposal listed with your username.
Please vote for the one that has my username,
Please remove your vote for the one that has the username gtg/steem.dao,
Please keep your vote on the one that says dao.team/steem.dao.
__
Sorry for the confusion, it's entirely my fault trying to reply on my phone! I didn't realise that 2 proposals had steem.dao mentioned so I've made a mess of explaining!
Thank you for your patience!
That's it 🙂
Thanks again 👍
I'd just like to take this opportunity to say, "I told you so 😉".
Yes, this was always a possibility. This was vindictive by one person so is difficult to accept. By removing his vote from mine and moving it to the Return Proposal (that all witnesses had agreed to stop supporting), it was a malicious attempt to stop my proposal. If he’d just removed his vote from mine, fair enough. But that wasn’t enough for him - he did his best to remove the funding altogether, which he continues his efforts to achieve.
You’ve presumably seen the other comments to this post and you’ll also be able to see his latest posts continuing to undermine my work. It’s unnecessary and in my opinion, vindictive. Doubly so if you compare my proposal and what I do with my STEEM in comparison to the others. Some of which sell 100%, none of which have powered up even a single STEEM. And he complains about selling pressure, yet develops tools to SELL STEEM but not to BUY it. Hypocrite.
I’ve since removed my support for him as a witness for obvious reasons.
There aren't many sincere developers on steem, unfortunately and it is sad to see that the few good left consider themselves as competitors. Probably and hopefully just some unhealthy competitions here, I'd like to believe that and not dark motives and agenda.
If I have to summarize - there are two types of developers here - those who do it to attract more votes and them milk and sell everything (some of them post several times a day and they don't pay attention to bugs reported long ago)
For instance, I reported in their discord server a bug on botto where several votes are caster per day on the same account while the setting is "1". Guess... not fixed yet. Another example - I saw someone report an issue with SteemKeychain at least a month ago, it's when trading SBD/STEEM. Not fixed either.
Then there are those developers who really care and hold STEEM and support other people, not just there own projects and account. I can name you and other 5-6 developers and if you leave steem, I'd instantly power down all as the others aren't "sincere" developers , lol, not sure that's the right word though.
So long story short, keep up the great work and I'm here if you need a helping hand!
Thank you - I appreciate the support and whilst "sincere" probably isn't the right word, I don't know what word is and it fits well so let's go with it 🙂
I couldn't agree more. If anything, it should be the opposite.
I've fixed countless bugs that this user has raised in GitHub - even ridiculously simple ones that with 5 minutes of effort, he could have fixed himself. So why didn't he? He spent longer writing the bug than it would've taken to fix it. Presumably, because he wouldn't benefit. He wouldn't get paid. I'm so bitter and angry... can you tell? I doubt that I'll ever forget this and his efforts to prevent my proposal from happening. I don't even know how this would benefit him or anybody else... I can only see how it harms everybody else.
I have no doubt that his efforts aren't over - I see from his post yesterday that he's still trying. So I haven't quit either. Not yet. Because as you say:
And I can confidently say, that you're not alone. (That sounds arrogant. Should I delete it? I don't want it to sound arrogant.)
I can feel your frustration.
What people do here on the chain is just mirroring the behaviour from RL. The humanity could've been much more developed if not all those wars that put us centuries back. Healthy competition is ok but this all doesn't sound healthy, as I see it from my point of view. Of course, I don't know all the history and details ;)
Yes - Real Life has a lot to answer for!
No... and I think that I missed something somewhere along the line too!
The pause was short lived though I won't get complacent about securing even more votes!
I’ve thought of a new approach for proposal votes so that I don’t have to keep contacting people - would you consider setting me as your witness proxy? Good plan? Not good plan?
I'd say, I'd pass witness proxy if I go inactive or very low active for a longer period of time. I'd like to have (the feeling that I have) some control over which witness I support :)
Not that my SP is that big to affect any major decision but I'd like to think my votes matter :)))
I am quite sure which one you won't support but if there is any you'd like me to give a vote, I think I have a few votes left ;)
Thank you, I hope you see my point!
That's good. A lot of people have little interest in this part of the platform so it's nice to hear that you do.
They do. They matter much more than a lot of people appreciate.
I essentially lost 4m votes last week - 2m removed from mine and 2m added to the one below. My proposal's not only managed to get these back, but more - moving above another proposal that it was previously behind. It's remarkable how quickly the 5k - 10k votes stack up.
If you haven't voted for moecki, he definitely deserves a vote. You probably know all of the other main players already. xpilar is always very helpful and since he's ranked #20, he's most at risk of dropping out (there's a big difference in rewards between #20 and #21!)
I definitely see your point, understand it and entirely agree with it 🙂
Thank you for the support and those suggestions, I had those two already approved.
moecki is a wonderful guy, he helps me with dev stuff (not my main goal and vision for the life but I like to experiment occasionally :)))
No plans to become a witness yourself?
Ah, of course you’ll know moecki, I really want to see him higher!
I might set up a node if server prices fall dramatically but it’s too expensive at the moment. I don’t think Steem’s desperate for witnesses at the moment given who’s not in the Top 20. Maybe one day but not today 😊
Yep. I saw the back story, and I removed my SPS vote from the "Return proposal" after this post. (I already wasn't voting for that witness account.) I'm glad to see that your proposal got reactivated, and I hope it stays that way.
This sort of concentration of power is the reason why I decided to keep #ddd going this month, even after the SPS rolled out some new project funding. If #ddd ever gets widespread adoption, no single voter (or small cabal) will be able to decide where that backing goes.
Whilst what happened was incredibly annoying and angered me, some good has come from it.
Whilst speaking to somebody else about it, there’s a realisation that I need some input from a UI designer so I’ve reached out to somebody I’ve worked with who I believe is one of the best available. The downside of course is that my “payment” will go straight to him (which would be considered an absolute bargain at “mates rates”). Another downside is that I’m still upset and whilst somebody like him is considered a top witness and acting selfishly, he will continue to hold STEEM back unless he personally profits.
I suppose that there’s an inevitability that a predominantly selfish platform has these characters.
Enough though. I’ve got some great improvements planned which with the design input, will be even better. And I will continue to gather support until my proposal overtakes the one above it. Then it won’t be just me that he’s attacking!
And thanks for removing your vote from that proposal. You must have done it before I started contacting everybody 😊
#ddd is growing nicely. I look at the delegations to me and whilst we’re not talking huge numbers individually, the symbolism is very meaningful to me. As is the fact that despite the lower “power” votes, my proposal has the highest actual votes.
Unfortunately, politics takes time and energy that would be better spent elsewhere.
I don't have a problem with people pursuing their own self-interest, but it really puzzles and frustrates me when they prioritize their short-term self-interest ahead of their own long-term self-interest - and that harms my long-term self-interest, too.
Looking forward to see it, especially with input from the person you describe with UI design skills. Back when Dan Larimer left, he made the point that Steemit's future success depended on web development skills, but we've seen very little of that in the subsequent years.
Yeah, this is one of the top-3 reasons why I've never submitted a proposal. Politics is not my skill set, and also not my area of interest.
I'm glad to read that. I almost skipped my blog post this month because it feels like pushing on a string. Being a cheerleader just isn't my personality, but I keep hoping it'll start getting some traction. I could just do my own personal delegations each month, and leave it at that, but that's not gonna spur participation, so I'm happy to read that it's having some impact, anyway.
Agreed. No society has ever flourished when every individual has acted alone.
I'd say very little is an understatement. I think it's been quickly forgotten that 14 months ago, Steemit had seen zero noticeable change. I accept the argument that the current rate of change is slow. And perhaps I've been too subtle with the changes I've made. Too incremental to the extent that those casual users who now oppose my work haven't noticed. But having zero Issue on GitHub raised within the last 5 years is a pretty good demonstration of progress.
Me neither. Which is probably why some people don't like me. I'm no diplomat. Never have been. Never will be.
Have you seen how many delegations I've received? These aren't people delegating in the hope of getting votes. Or people wanting anything from me in return.
You inspired these people. That inspires me.
We could use this over on Blurt.blog
What is cost / month ?

Why is it needed to add the Ukrainian language? Are all the other languages integrated as well?
Steemit has a large and active Ukrainian community. They took the time to write, update and test the language file - particularly through @o1eh. Implementation was just a couple of hours and if it weren't for a couple of typos in the language file that I received, it would have been even quicker. Hopefully this addition will encourage this community to continue to grow, as we have seen over the past couple of year in particular.
If other users from other nationalities who speak other languages would like to put in the same time and effort that the Ukrainian community has, I'll happily integrate it into the site as it's an extremely quick win that could potentially attract more users from these nations.
