Aberystwyth Arts Centre Cafe - 20 March 2025

The photo below shows you the foyer of the Aberystwyth Arts Centre which is part of the University of Aberystwyth in mid Wales.

I was very impressed by this changing lighting in that open space area. The building reminded me a bit of an airport waiting area where you’re just passing by so the warm lighting made it special. I'm not sure whether or not this was part of an exhibition; I didn't see any signs giving information.

The photo above shows you the opposite side of the same foyer but from a different level. I think this would be the second floor because there was another flight of stairs that you can just see to the right of the photo. The Arts Centre offers plays, exhibitions, concerts and films in a cinema. Sadly when my friend and I visited we were a bit disappointed because there were no exhibitions. In fact the area where I took that photo was closed to all except those attending a conference. We thought that perhaps it was their reading week as it was so quiet and empty.

It was disheartening to visit an Arts Centre and only enjoy the lighting and the gift shop so we decided to treat ourselves and have something to eat at the Arts Centre Cafe. It’s all open plan so you can just see part of the cafe by the huge windows at the end of the photo above. The photo below gives you an idea of the scale.

I had a lovely cup of decaff latte and a vegan raspberry slice which cost around £6 or around 30 Steem. As you can see in the photo below my slice was a bit small but it was tasty; the decaff latte was very nice too.

Below you can see our view from the Cafe to the outside yard area. I envisage that parts of the year that will be full of students but not when we went !

I finished everything thinking I could have had double that slice as it was so small. Anyhow we planned to return when the weather gets brighter and better as perhaps we’ll be able to catch an arts exhibition or show.

Besides the open spaces inside this building, you can find many facilities like an accessible lift in case you cannot go upstairs very easily. There are many toilet facilities including some accessible and neutral toilets. I’ve already mentioned the cafe, but there’s also a craft shop that sells all manner of stationery, chocolates and ceramics. When we went the parking was actually free so that was very good as the visit was a bit unfulfilling.

I found this brief 5 year-old video telling you a bit about this Arts Centre :

Yes, I agree with you.
I really liked the lighting; it gives it a special touch. Having different cultural events there adds value. Saludos!
