Liquid STEEM Report Jan 8, 2019

in #stats6 years ago

This is a historical graph of both Total STEEM and Liquid STEEM supply

(Note) There are two different scales on this graph. For full scale, see graph below.

Liquid STEEM is the remaining STEEM that has not been converted into Steem Power. (Orange Line)

  • When STEEM is liquid, it can be readily sold and purchased.
  • When STEEM is locked away in SP, it is not liquid, It takes a significant amount of time to convert it back to a liquid form.

This is a graph of the same data. The data of this graph was plotted on the same scale to show the massive difference between Liquid STEEM and STEEM stored in SP

I created these charts with data that I collected over the last few months.

Why are these graphs important?

STEEM is created at a high rate. Currently 8.61% per year. Many Steemians have a concern about STEEM inflation with the high rate of new currency creation. These graphs show that there is a limited supply of STEEM. Inflation is being offset by the rate of STEEM converted to Non-Liquid STEEM.

Given that Steem is inflating at roughly 9% a year as you say, would it therefore be important to be gaining 9% more steem a year to offset the inflation? As if the price of steem stays the same I would be loosing money in relative terms. I think this idea goes for all content creators?

Best,

@charitycurator

You must be assuming that the price of STEEM stays constant.

If you are not considering STEEM price and only STEEM quantity, then yes, you would need to earn the similar amount of STEEM, however it won't need to be at much as the 8.61%. The reason is that you earn interest when holding SP. It is a small amount though and shaves off about a percent.

Clearly, the market factors dominate price which is king and not the inflation.

In the future this might change. "IF" STEEM blockchain becomes popular for businesses to invest, startups to happen, and SMT's become a reality, then liquid portion of STEEM may become a limited resource. This is a whole different dynamic that most other currencies don't have.

Is that huge quantity of steem instead of sbd wasn't be bad for the economy of the token?

I don't understand the question.

Because the price of steem and sbd, we had stop to print sbd and we are just printing steem. since we have more and more steem by the time pass, could this become a problem?
Cheers!

I think that it is a problem, but a minor one.

We have had about 1/3 of that SBD converted to STEEM. There is still about 2/3 left to convert. Even if all of it was converted, it would be a minor issue, but still needs to be addressed.
