He discovered that the ladies in the city knew about his personality and achievements and were only with him because of his money. So he decided to place his search for true love in the hands of fate. He wrote an austere letter "TO SOME ONE BEAUTIFUL AT HEART AND FAR AWAY THAT CAN BE REACHED," with his contact details attached to it, he corked it inside a bottle, and tossed it into the see in the hopes that it might help him find a young woman to marry.
two years later, in 1965, he was surprised to receive a letter from a South African girl, Brenda, who said,* "I may not be beautiful at heart, but it is extremely surprising that this little bottle have travelled this distance to reach me that I must send you a reply"*. John and Brenda began writing one another and three years after he threw a bottle into the sea, John moved to South Africa to marry his fate given love.
