San Beda completes Final 4
San Beda University claimed an impressive 25-19, 25-17, 25-19 win over Mapua University to complete the Final Four cast at the NCAA Season 95 women's volleyball tournament yesterday at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Red Spikers advanced to a 6-2 record to accompany the semis to leading College of Saint Benilde (7-0), defending Arellano University (6-1) and Season 94 runner-up University of Perpetual Help System Dalta (6-2 ).
Nieza Viray led the way with 17 hits from 12 attacks, three aces and two blocks while also solidifying his floor defense after recording 12 digs.
Open hitter Cesca Racraquin scored 12 points - all from attacks - and Kimberly Manzano made 11 hits including four in the Lady Red Spikers' total of seven blocks.
Mapua was not formed in San Beda when it launched sharp attacks to generate 44 attacks against just 20 Lady Cardinals.
The Lady Red Spikers also dominated the blocking department (7-2) and service area (4-3).
San Beda still gets 30 free points from Mapua's errors.
"The kids really worked hard for us because the morale of the players was high, that was the maturity of the game," said Lady Red Spikers mentor Nemesio Gavino.
No Lady Cardinals player recorded double digits, with only Mae Fernandez and Lorraine Barias scoring seven.
Mapua fell to 1-7.
In the first game, San Sebastian College-Recoletos beat the Lyceum of the Philippines University, 25-20, 25-18, 20-25, 25-16, to slightly improve their record at 2-6.
Shane Requierme and Reyann Cañete each had 14 points, while Jamille Carreon and Kamille Tan each had 12 points to lead the Lady Stags' balanced run.
The Lady Pirates went 3-5 and lost 15 points to Monica Sevilla.
