The Week that Was in Baseball
· The Eagle has Landed: After Mariners DH Nelson Cruz landed on the DL for slipping on a step after celebrating a home run, Mariners fans held there breathe as injury prone pitcher James Paxton had an eagle land on him during opening game ceremonies. In the post game interviews, he was asked why he didn’t run, “ I figured I wouldn’t outrun an eagle.” Good call.
· The Adventures of Gabe: After a week of baffling managerial decisions like bringing in a reliever who hadn’t warmed up, pulling a starter whose throwing a shutout after only 68 pitches and shifting an outfielder so shallow that the player never had a chance to catch any moderately hit ball, Gabe was greeted by his home fans. The chorus of boos was laid on pretty thick. One Phillies player was quoted as saying that they’d be fine as soon as the manager gets out of the way. Ouch.
· The Bronx Cheer: You are the reigning NL MVP and you had two home runs in your Yankees debut but you’re at home now in New York. The Yankees booed the 300 million dollar player as he fanned five times. The golden sombrero, as striking out 5 times in a game is referred to, is rare only happening 3 times last year. That’s New York for you.
· A Rumbling Man: Not known for his speed, Edwin Encarnacion hit a stand up inside the park home run this week. He isn’t Albert Pujols slow but he’s not far off.
· Japanese Babe Indeed: After being smacked around all spring, Ohtani had himself a week. He gave up a 3 run shot in the first inning of his first game as a pitcher to the collective groan of the fans. He shook it off though retiring 14 of 15 batters to collect his first major league win. With the bat, Ohtani is hitting a robust .389 with 3 home runs. Impressive given he had one single all spring.

This player Ohtani is going to be fun to watch. He can hit and pitch.
Good read! Baseball happens to be one of my favorite sports when I was a kid. I really miss playing it with my friends.
