Atlanta Falcons – 2017-18 NFL Season Analysis
On the Rise
The Atlanta Falcons remain on the rise. This is the year that can put a budding franchise over the top or crush it back into a rebuilding mode, and these Falcons certainly are not the latter. Usually when a team loses a Super Bowl they struggle to find it back. They often lose the guys that got them to the big game. However, this Falcons team is primed to continue its dominance with Matt Ryan at the helm.
The Falcons may not start the season full throttle as new offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, formerly Kyle Shanahan, may take some time to prime his new offense.
A Preview
The team’s first preseason game at Miami Dolphins on Thursday didn’t yield much information as is the case for most early preseason games. For what it’s worth, Terron Ward led the offense with 11 rushes, 48 yards, TD and Devonta Freeman — recently signed a $41.25 million 5-year contract extension — scored on a reception from Matt Ryan before taking the rest of the night off.
On defense, De’Vondre Campbell led the way with 3 tackles and an INT.
Key Additions:
Offensive Coordinator Steve Sarkisian,
DT Dontari Poe (Free Agent)
DE Jack Crawford (Free Agent)
DE Takkarist McKinley
LB Duke Riley
Dearly Departed:
Offensive Coordinator Kyle Shanahan
DE Dwight Freeney
FB Patrick DiMarco
A New Home
Excitement will be swirling in Atlanta as they will have a new home in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which is slated to be finished before the regular season kicks off for the Falcons at home, Week 2 against the Packers in primetime Sunday night.
