Armada wins with hard work

The Blainville-Boisbriand Armada players were repeatedly frustrated by Matthew Welsh in the third period before Alex Barré-Boulet finally managed to shake the ropes. The Armada finally won 3-2 on the Charlottetown Islanders Friday in Boisbriand.

The Laurentians are now in a win at the President's Cup final, where the Acadie-Bathurst Titan are waiting to sweep the Victoriaville Tigres.

Barré-Boulet multiplied the scholarly passes during the third but each time Welsh had the last word. With less than nine minutes to go in the third, Barré-Boulet took a Drake Batherson throwback to break the 2-2 tie.

Welsh faced a 46-shot barrage, including 20 in the third, while Samson was tested 25 times.

The first period, goalless, was dominated by crowd favorites. They directed 10 pucks on Welsh's net while visitors sent five to Émile Samson.

The Laurentian fleet continued to attack the opposing net in the second period and took advantage of its first game power of the meeting to thread the needle.

It was Batherson who made the red light twinkle when his wrist shot was in the skylight. The presence of Alexandre Alain and Joel Teasdale particularly helped by placing himself in front of Welsh.

Luke Henman doubled his lead in a two-on-one run with Teasdale. He chose to go for a throw that deceived the vigilance of the Islanders.

The Prince Edward Island troupe took advantage of Joël Bouchard's lack of discipline to level the score. Cameron Askew first hit the target in a 5-on-3, while Derek Gentile brought everyone back to the starting grid before the second penalty ended.

The sixth game of the series will be presented Sunday at the EastLink Center in Charlottetown and the Islanders will face elimination.
