The Ballad of The New Jersey Devils

in #sports5 years ago

Oh boy, I didn't think I was actually gonna write this. But it turns out, the damage has been done and I have to write this.

Well, this season has been thing short of pain so far for devil fans like myself. However, nobody knows about whats going on in the mind of "Ed Shank".

May I just recap some events that lead up to this current moment in time for the Devils. I mean some because I myself don't wanna remember the suffering that has happened in past days watching this team this season.

2019 NHL DRAFT

Well, the Devils had the first pick of the 2019 NHL Draft and picked Dynamic Foward Jack Hughes from the USA National Development Program. Hughes put up record numbers with the squad building up his stock in this draft.

However, on the 2nd day of this draft the Devils traded for defenseman P.K. Subban from the Nashville Predators in exchange for Steven Santini, Jeremy Davies, and 2 second round picks which had one in 2019 and the other in 2020 respectively. I'm not going to talk about the John Hayden trade.

JULY 1st

Ah, yes. The opening of free agency, let the chaos ensue.

However, the Devils barely made a splash in free agency only picking up Wayne Simmonds on a one-year deal.

What?

The Devils at the time had cap space to work with, but they just didn't use it. Not even for anyone on a one-year deal.

Why?

No idea.

PRE-SEASON

Ok, here's how to see how your team will do for the upcoming season. The long awaited pre-season. Where unknown players come to shine and try and crack the big club while some, are just there. The Devils were crowned the "Champions of Pre-Season" (hey maybe we should raise a banner for that!) and the season was looking good on from there.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4TH

Oh no, not this day. This was the day where all optimism crashed and burned. Home opener vs a weakened Jets team on their last leg of a Back-To-Back. Well, we know this result. 5-4 loss in a shootout. Yeah. You know what happened.

THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER, 2019

Yeah, this has been the month of all lost hope. Though the Devils went 3-2 on a road-trip hopes were up until it crashed and burned yet again. This is the month where the fanbase has been rioting. Rioting to fire John Hynes- Coach of the New Jersey Devils. Taylor Hall is also playing terrible, with the Devils shopping Hall around (as some sources claim) it is absurd that he's playing bad on purpose. It's like he's trying to sabotage his own trade value so we won't get much for him. A scumbag move. May I add that Cory Schneider was placed on waivers and actually cleared? Yeah, there's that.

Currently, the Devils has put their entire fanbase in a frenzy. Some going absolutely crazy about whats going on with this very team. Hell, some people are going all out and purchasing a billboard calling to fire Hynes which, I actually agree with. The problem is in my eyes is that Ray Shero is too loyal to his coaches. This is the same reason why he got fired as the Penguins GM. 2017-18 was a fluke year as it's being shown now and if things still go like this, we're going to be in cap hell in a few years with the amount of #1 picks we'll be getting in the future.

This is hurtful to watch.
