The Wild's Defensive Depth Must Continue to Stand Tall
The Wild's Defensive Depth Must Continue to Stand Tall
Well it's confirmed. Ryan Suter is out for the season with a broken Fibula and the Minnesota Wild must learn to live life without their number 1 defenseman.
Sure it sucks, but that's life in the National Hockey League. Every team is going through something like this right now and you just have to get on with it as a team and an organisation. This is why you build depth.
With Jared Spurgeon still injured, this defensive depth is being tested. The Wild are handling the test well, but the return of Spurgeon will be welcomed.
Here's what Bruce Boudreau had to say on his expected return:
“It’s not a question of him resting; we want him healthy for the playoff. If we were to bring him on the trip, he’d be 50 percent with the case of potentially getting hurt again. We want to make sure. He’s not a guy that’s going to take five games to get ready for the games. He will be ready and we want him 100 percent.”
Jonas Brodin and Matt Dumba have stepped up to be a 1st line D pairing in the absense of Suter and Spurgeon, while Murphy, Seeler, Prosser and now Soucy have all stepped up their play.
Remember the Wild still have Gustav Olofsson to return from a concussion as well.
They're handling the adversity faced on the blue line well so far. Long may it continue into the playoffs.
