Shfali Verma, the youngest cricketer to make half a century for India, broke Sachin Tendulkar's record
India's 15-year-old Shafali Verma has become the youngest Indian player to score half a century in an international cricket match.
He not only broke the record of leading batsman Sachin Tendulkar but also made the second half century the next day.
On Saturday, Shafali Verma scored 73 off 49 balls in the first match of the five-match Twenty20 series against the West Indies in St. Lucia.
The next day, he played an unbeaten 69 off 35 balls in the second match, which helped India win the match by 10 wickets.
15-year-old Shafali is already the youngest player to play T20 in India. He played his first match against South Africa in October and impressed everyone with 46 runs.
But now he has broken the 30-year-old record of India's leading batsman Sachin Tendulkar. Before Shfali Verma, Sachin Tendulkar had scored half a century for India in the shortest time.
In 1989, Sachin Tendulkar was only 16 years and 214 days when he made a half century against Faisalabad against Pakistan.
When Shfali Verma broke Sachin Tendulkar's record, he was 15 years and 285 days old.
Indian batsman Shafali is the second youngest cricketer to make half a century in international cricket.
This record is actually with Kavisha of the United Arab Emirates who showed this feat at only 15 years and 267 days of age.
Shafali had to go to the cricket academy in her native city of Rohtak as a boy because there were no girls to play with.
Shfali Verma had said that he was fond of playing cricket when he once saw Sachin Tendulkar batting.
