Professional wrestling: issues unknown or not popular with the average fan of professional wrestling.

Professional wrestling as an act of performance has long being with man since the early 90s. There are two forms of wrestling which have been around. These are the:

1. Greco Roman and

2. The carny wrestling.

We shall now discuss them in full.

1. The Greco Roman (mat wrestling): this is the competitive aspect of wrestling with well developed rules and regulations. Greco Roman, mat or amateur wrestling is performed in the Olympics and other wrestling organisation and is recognized as a sport with a variety of locks, takedowns, submission holds and techniques for defeating opponents. This category is regulated by the international wrestling federation (I. W. F)

2. Carny wrestling : this form of wrestling has been around since the late 1800s and involved performers travelling around states in form of carnivals to perform in front of audiences who pick their favourite performer and bet on him to win.

This kind of wrestling is scripted with the performance knowing the outcome of the events and rehearsing before performing in front of crowds. Later on in the the 60s, especially in U. S. A, the witness of the birth of regional wrestling with organisations scattered around states of the country.

With the coming of Vincent McMahon senior and the world wide wrestling federation (W. W. W. F) proved the emergence of professional wrestling as a hot rave in America. With the full control control by Vincent McMahon JNR in the late 70s down to the 80s, a new demographic of fans were attracted with the introduction of the likes of hulk Hogan, ultimate warrior, Jimmy snuka, Jake the snake Roberts, Rickie steamboat and a host of others. At this point, different wrestling leagues were established in U. k, other parts of Europe and Asia like Japan where the ultimate professional wrestling in Japan became a hot cake.

In the 90s, the world wrestling federation (WWF) kicked off with the likes of stone cold Steve Austin, the rock, mankind, the undertaker and Shawn Micheals. The Monday night wars for television ratings kicked off in the mid 90s with the world championship wrestling (W. C. W) a rival organisations.

WWE later on acquired the W. C. W and E. C W in the early 2000s when they went bankrupt .At this point the WWE dropped the edgy, PG14 programming of the WWF for the much more PG, family oriented product which is the WWE (world wrestling entertainment).

There are certain things to note about pro wrestling which is of great importance to the art:

1. Professional wrestling matches are scripted : the actions are predetermined before the performers perform a set of choreographed moves. They are not combat moves to cause real pain but for entertainment value.

2. The referees send signals and messages to the wrestlers on the next set of moves to be performed down to the fall of the finish.

3. The sticks, steal chairs, tables, hammer, steel steps, barbed wire and fire and mat or ring floor are carefully selected and manufactured for the successful performance of a wrestling match especially hardcore matches in other to prevent broken bones.

4. The good guys are known as "a face " or "faces " , these are the fan favorite while the bad guys are known as "heels"

5. The blood on the face of professional wrestlers are done by an act known as "juicing" or "blading" the professional wrestler either hides a blade in his taped wrist, finger or under his tongue which is dangerous. Sometimes, the referee passes the blade to the wrestler, or it's attached to the steel chair or inside the naked turn buckle.

6. Wrestling programs are segmented by storylines, scripts and angles

7. Conversations between wrestlers and speeches are known as "promo" . The ability to cut a decent promo is an important attribute of a professional wrestler.

8. Fans who just watch professional wrestling for the fun of it without paying attention to the internal activities are known as "casual fans "

9. Those who are equipped with the full knowledge and are involved with the backstage actions in the organization are known as "marks" and belong to the I. W. C. (internet wrestling community)

10. Wrestling matches are categorized into. Lower card, mid card and the main card.

Like in the WWE, the main card includes the WWE World heavyweight championship, the midcard involves the intercontinental and United involves the cruiserweight title and the the women's title.
