Brownlee wins in China, Tom De Malsche 2nd
Tom De Malsche may consider this title the most outstanding performance in his carreer, except for his Hawaii fninish last year. We are talking about the 70.3 Ironman at Liuzhou who has gotten a lot of media attention due to the participation of double Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee. Brownlee won the race, but we consider the M45 second place by Tom De Malsche not less impressing. The female race brought an exciting finish.
Tom De Malsche made an outstanding performance in Hawaii 2017, finishing as 27th Belgian in 10hr28'04. In China he came 35th overall, finishing in 4hr32'38 he came second in his AG. Winner Brownlee was long since finished, having returned from a period of inactivity due to injury. He won in 3hr45'28, Craig Alexander came second four minutes later, Sam Betten came third.
The female race was won by Agnieska Jerzyk. The Polish won after a fierce duel with Imogen Simmonds. Agnieska won in 4hr19'13, merely three seconds ahead of Simmonds. One minute later Sarah Piampiano completed the podium.
The only other Belgian to finish was Mario Delemare, he was 235th in 5hr56'10 and 17th in the M50 AG.
